G'day all
I thought I might add a bit of advice that I recieved from Childo Tomas the bass player with Anga.
As I mentioned before, we were all 'chewin the fat' talking about what we like to do etc... I happen to mentionthat I play congas. I motioned with my hand 'just a little' while pointing to the stage and saying 'compared He is a master'
Childo stoped me in my tracks; he looked me straight inthe eyes and said, "you play from the heart don't you, that's all that matters". He then points to the stage and says "this is noting". Touches me on the chest and says this is what matters.
I was blown away, humbled. He made me feel secure in my playing even without having heard me or knowing nothing about me. It was one of those inspirational moments, a paradigm shift.
Anga was like that as well. Didn't matter who you were or who you knew. Every body is treated the same. No pretentious superstar act here.
The Music was great, But I have to admit that I enjoyed chatting even more.
Late in the evening emails are swapped, boodbyes are said. do you know when you spend a great evening with friends over dinner and a couple of bottles. You don't remember what you spoke about, or what you ate, perhaps you've got a headake from the liquid stuff. You come away feeling all the better for having shared some special.
That's what the night was like.
