Zaragemca makes an important point about what style of reggae is being played... nowadays in the Caribbean the styles of Marley, Burning Spear, Steel Pulse, etc. are long gone and hardly even listened to. The current reggae is much faster, hip-hop-jungle ragamuffin style, the basic beats often sounding like Mid Eastern "Malfouf", West African "Funga" Caribbean "Soca" and so on (many names for this similar rhythm played in many areas world-wide)
Bom..bom..bom.bom..bom..bom.bom..bom..bom.bom//
And that's just ONE type of new reggae, it's endless and new styles are being created all the time.
The traditional "heartbeat" reggae rhythms are long since pase' in the Caribbean, that's for sure. The rest of the world will catch up after a while, I guess.
Of the older styles, I like Steel Pulse, Aswad, Maddo (who I used to play with), some others and of course Brother Bob...
All the best,
