Totally hear you man, It was a misinterpretation but even though this went on for some time it was really a minor thing to correct but I am very aware that I need "looking at" by an instructor.

I'm quite sure I'm doing nothing drastically wrong with the Congas as I recognize that my Tumbao or Guaguanco or Jibaro are sounding good as compared to music I listen to but I absolutley resolve to find a quality teacher.

Cohiba,

Email me direct and I can give you the numbers of Dave, Robin and Bosco. They all have different ways of teaching and playing, we are all built differently, but one thing is common to them all, they are experienced teachers.
One session will sort out how much relearning you will need (if any)

Cheers fella's this is really helpful, Iv'e followed Snowboy musically for years - back in the Acid Jazz days, he's really top dog percussionist in the London jazzy/funky scene. And his own Latin Jazz stuff is la Bomba.

I really didn't know guys like this were accessible for lessons, many thanks again!

Just a bit of free advice from another poor percusionist.Through my drum circle I run I ended up running into this guy named Ernesto he has offered me some mini lessons (basicly speaking)he just shows me a new riff and next time we meet he checks out my handing and tehcnique and corrects me.He used to hang with giovanni so I got lucky and have a mentor.Maybe you can network and find someone it only takes a few minutes to hear a couple of cycles of a pattern (especially if you have it in a book already). Then they just listen to you for a few minutes they know what to listen for.Maybe I'm just lucky but I hope you can find someone in this capacity.
Happy drumming
Chris

I used to ask that question all the time to my first teacher and he always said it all depends on how much i was willing to practice . I don't worry about that anymore b'couse my present instructor has shown me that it comes little by little . He always has something new for me all the time his name is Jose Manuel Castillo he is in miami . You will feel sometime or another comfortable with your hands you'll see what i mean do'nt worry about time and do'nt be in a rush to , just feel it at heart . :D
