Rhythm files to share?

I have some example files to share if anyone is interested. Does anyone know where to do this best given that the upload here does not allow .wav files? One file is a two bar martillo variation with the first bar replacing the hembra stroke on 4 with a finger tip on the macho, then a rhim shot on the macho on 4+. The second bar consists of 2 open hembra triplets but I do not know the correct notation given there are pauses before and after. There are variations where the first note of the triplets has a flam of one or three strokes.

the rim finger slap is on the and + of 4. hit the hembra on the 4 and a rim finger slap on the + of 4. does it make sense??? on the second bar there is a quater rest which is the one of the bar. the triples are on the and + of the 1. on the 2 will be the same quater rest on the 2 and follow with triples on the and + of 2. that's how i see it. my best. franc

With the first bar you are right, but in the second bar the pauses are in the beginning and the end, not between the triplets. I can send you the file by email if you like. I would be interested in a file of the rhythm you use as a signature, do not quite get the notation.

P bass with the fingertippsbass

A open stroke on the macho
a open stroke on the hembra
 accentuated open stroke on the macho

all notes are eighth, except for those in brackets, which are quarter-triplets

why don't you use the standard or the universal notation for the bongo to show your bongo rhythms. go to http://www.congaplace.com and you'll see what i mean. others in this forum will understand it with ease. it is confusing to learn other type of percussion notation for rhythms. i know you know your type of bongo notation . with your respect, of course. my best to you and áche!!! take care franc

Sorry, I tried, but I cannot find anything about universal or standard notation. There is a bongo book at congaplace.com, but the only notation it uses is with real notes, which cannot be used here. Can you tell me the URLwhere to look at?

But they only have x and o as letters, how is the notation for all the other strokes when you cannot use real notes?

Another way of makin it easier for everyone is something like:

om - open tone on macho
sm - slap on macho
rm - rim shot on macho
tm - thumb on macho
tm - tip on macho

oh - open tone on hembra
or u could just have H for hembra
tH - tip on hembra
th- thumb on hembra

b - bass with palm of hand

Something like that.

my signature is just two bar solo. in regard to your post above. the second bar i see the triplets like this a quater rest then two open tone which are quater notes. on the second triplets is the same with the exception that an eight rest follow. the rest or pause, like you say falls on the down beat. something like this r 2 3 r 2 3 r + 4 + ( the r is the rest or pause) the first rest a quater falls on the 1, the second rest a quater falls on the 2 , the third rest an eight falls on 3. the + of the third is a finger slap on the macho follow with an open tone on the 4 on the hembra. the + of the 4 is touch on the macho. make sense. that's how i see it. my best, franc

Sorry to respond so late, had lost the thread. You misunderstood what I described. It was right what I had posted. The triplets go over the complete bar as I had written above. It is four quarter triplets, you play every second note and start with a pause so you get six notes. The only downbeats you get that way are on 2 and 4. All of them are played on the hembra. Of course you can play many other ways, but this is what my teacher showed me. It is played at 2:00 in the Chan Chan recording of Buena Vista Social Club, you can find it at youtube. It is the second bar in the second line of my notation of the licks of that video posted in my profile here. Maybe you can write down your lick as well or post an audio file? And of your two bar solo? Changed your signature in the meantime, hm?
