Meinl Luis Conte Timbales!

I would like to know, if anyone in the Congaclub forum has played the Meinl Luis Conte timbales? Any input on this timbales will be really appreciated.

Hola Johnny, hope all is well! I guess the LP Tito Puente's still the top of the line when referring to timbales? I do have a set of JCR's that I love. I just want to keep the JCR's for recording purposes only, and buy another set for the day to day gigging. Any recomendations?

Hey Guys here's my take on timbales. I personally have an original set of Leedy's Solid Brass timbs from the late 50's early 60's. The kind Willie Bobo used to use. I like believe it or not and not available, in the US are "Premier" timbales from England. Matador Timbales, and the "Pearl Elite Brass Timbales. A friend if mine has an original set of Humberto Morales timbales,calf skin heads with the "Seal" in a case with cymbals and bells---selling them for 2,000 bucks. They are in "MINT" condition. LIke New....That's how well kept they have been. At your Service...JC JOHNNY CONGA...

Hola Jorge..When we getting together???? You might want to chek out the Pearl Elite Brass timbales ptb5134-13 and 14.Believe it or not Matador Timbales aren't bad for Gigging purposes . I know Sammy Timbalon uses them on gigs, they sound pretty good. At your Service..JC JOHNNY CONGA...

Hi Congaforum, hope all is well! For those looking for a brand new set of timbales, make sure and give a try to Meinl Luis Conte Signature Series timbales. I did and trust me, this is a beautiful instrument. I have been a LP player all my life, but after trying this set, I did change my mind! The set I got is 14/15 with brass shells. Very dark and articulated crisp cáscara, plus clean and powerfull rimshots. Give'm a try!

Sorry to butt into something I know very little about but......

I saw Luis Conte perform a few months ago and he was saying that his Signature Series timbales were something of a return to the "old-style" timbales which are closer to timpani (from which timbales evolved). I assume this means they are somewhat beefier than most. One feature he talked about was hitting on the side of the shell (there is a word for it but I forget) which has gone out of fashion somewhat these days and he wanted to bring it back.

Hi Fish, hope all is well! Probably to what Luis Conte was making reference is to the old Leedy/Ludwig Humberto Morales
model brass timbales. A truly collectors item these days!
The hitting on the side of the timbales, is known as paila or cáscara.

VAYA Jorge...haven't heard them and I still have my Brass Slingerland Timbs from the early 60's,can't beat them! solid brass 6 inches deep and a very dry cascara and the typical "old skool" sound a la Rogers and H. Morales.......At your Service....JC JOHNNY CONGA.....CU PRAK CU PRAK!
