If anybody has seen the Video of "Los Ibeyis,Jr"(Fiesta de Tambores). will see a 10 year, who is now about 13 14, playing quinto, singing and directing his group and then pick up the Iya and while still singing ,play it too....I have a 10 year old student that I teach and he can do what most adults can't do , which is count, tap, read, and play everything i show him, at the SAME TIME....he is like a sponge ....and he has no fear of the drum, when it comes time to "hit it"...."JC" Johnny Conga... :D

I think that as long as the kid is motivated and is not forced to follow dady's passion, it is fine.

As most of you guys, my kids were surrounded by drums since they were born. They lived in Belize, Guatemala, Mexico and France so they have been in contact with various cultures and drummings.

Hey first of all , all my blessings to all of you . Second, thanks For the input realy i mean it . I just got on and looked the topic up and found all of your great replies . The pics are awsome .

I wish my son would have been intrested but they are not , so be it .

I think what i'm going to tell my friend is that she bring her son over before buying the drums ,and give him some basic lessons which i can do . I hope he like the congas as much as his mother does .That is the main issue i guess , its what he enjoys .

My kids are 18 and 15 , the oldest has never been intrested so i never pushed him to do it . My youngest told me he was and i bought a drum set 'cause thats what he wanted to learn . I dipped about a thousand dollars into it and a year of lessons . To make it short he got bored he says with it so i sold them . Once and a while he tells me that he wishes he had not stopped but i already got rid of the drum set .

I have no problem giving this kid my time , i believe its worth while and thats what counts lets see if also the mother my friend is also seriouse about it since she will have to drive to my house for them.

It takes also comitment from the parents most of all , but hey you all what the heck i'm giving her the lessons for a small fee . A SIX PACK OF GROLSH every two lessons .....hahahahaha

HEY THANKS YOU ALL , rumbaman :D
