well Im not fond of the synthetic heads sound over rawhide in the least bit. But I have to sacrifice some place to do what I have to do here with my playing situation. Maybe these congas are not the way to go, I have never played on fyberskyn. I have put nuskyn on my headliner set and thats what I play now, they dont sound better then the rawhide at all but thats the breaks I cant have the best of both worlds in this situation. If I had the time and place to tune my drums before I play each time I would definitely use natural skins with out a doubt they sound best.

But sense I dont have a place to try the Bobby congas I will take your advice, that they may not be the best sounding set in the world. Thanks for the opinion JC

Geeez!

Why tha #### all manufacturers doesn't put sound clips of instruments on i-net?

JC, you really blew my mind with last post!
I got even more frustrated to find any video or audio clip to hear those 'garbage cans'. It's not the look that i look in the drums, but the sound and i'm after great projection and attacky, bright sounds of congas. I give a lot on your well trained, experienced oppinion!
I'm thinking to contact one customer who bought Bobbys congas to try them out and hear and feel for myself, but i'll see if he's near...

JC, what is your proposal or advice to buy from Pearl; which fiberglass congas? I will use it in a very live fusion jazz band, where the traditional sound isn't coming out that 'sparky and crazy? I need congas that sound is something special and yet 'congy' :D

Any of your words of advice will be welcome and i'll be very thankful!

Primozz

ps: How is your instructional DVD CongaRobics doin'?

I didnt find any videos or sound clipc either Im just going by what Im seeing here and I would be to worried to sell what I have now to go with garbage cans, I love the sound, the look, and the feel of the Luis Conte drum I have now and I would hate to give that up for a couple of cans.

Well, the Bobby Allendes have received good reviews and comments by some outstanding congueros. (i.e., Paoli Mejias, Gadwin Vargas, Eddie Montalvo, Wilito Lopes of Sonora Poncena...etc, etc. However, I am aware that this is like everything....some will like them, some will not. I believe comments should be respected either way..positive or negative.

The Bobby's are totally different design of any other Pearl conga and is an improvement in most, if not all features of the regular Pearl congas.

They are fiberglass congas with synthetic heads...Not to be liked by most. (Specially if you are used to wood and natural head...It will sound different for sure and/or will not like it).

Like I've said before...don't believe what I say or anybody else says...try them yourself....

Sound clips??? Sorry on that one...

Saludos!
Raymond

I use the basic Black fiberglass Pearl Elites with Natural skins. for me this is the best way to go. Sure there are other drums in the world that may be better, sound or looks...but for me this works. I also look forward to the NEW Folkloric Congas that Pearl is coming out with next month. Wood outside and Fiberglass coated inside with traditional rims, and 28 inch high for seating. I'm "ol skool" guys, and very very picky about my drums.... I don't go for looks, I go for sound and reliability....."JC" Johnny Conga.... :D

JC,
Nice to read that your CongaRobics is doin fine!

I really respect your sincerity!!!

I would just like to clear one thing which I feel to say:
I think every one here feels, stands and serves the Groove around behind the drums which sounds as more ideal to his wishes how it should be. I never bought an instrument cause it looked good. If the drum is sounding WAW, it can be made out of plastic, i don't care as long as it is possible to produce that mmmmmm... sounds.

I'm having this great offer from Pearl and i'm also trying to hear the Pearl Elite fiberglass... Could help me and send me a clip of basic tones of your drums? That would really help to get an audio scheme what are u talking about?
Thank you, knowledgeful CongaRobicMan!

Yours customer in advance for CongaRobics,

Primozz

One thing...

I hope the new folkloric congas will have some mp3 audio test on pearl's web page...

Considering the fact that you and Raymond are the Pearl endorsers, could You say to Pearl guys to do that?
Just an marketing idea for all of us, percussionists from the other side of planet, where Congas in music shops are more of an exotic inventory... :D

Thanks,
Yours GrooveFully

You can say that again.....

not too many sites offer sound samples, that would be a great marketing idea. LP site has a few but nothing to brag about.

GuruPimpi...I dont have the way to send you a 'sound bite' of my Pearls. Email GlenCaruba@PearlDrums.com and see if he can accomodate you, and also if you guys were to email him with your suggestions, about an mp3 sound bite on the folklorics.....I will always recommend Pearl Elite Fiberglass congas with Natural skins. They sound good, their durable and give me the desired response from a conga drum. And yes I have known guys to buy a drum for the way it looked.... ??? ..."JC" Johnny Conga.... :D

GuruPimpi/Bataboom,

I just recorded a few tracks for a band playing my B.A. congas. I will try to send you something to listen to. Its not conga focused stuff, but it will help you hear what garbage cans sound like.:)

HI all, alot has been mentioned about the bobby allende congas and the folklori.

What about the richie flores? are they any good? Not much is heared about them, or richie. In australia we don't get to hear much about what is going on in the rest of the world any way.

it would be great if someone who has played all the different sets of pearl congas could give a run down.

But, let' s not stop there, LP, MEINL, has anyone played all of the different series in these brands as well.

thanks in advance.
