I have recorded my schallochs on my boss 1180 digital recorder, to compare them to mp3 and wav file recordings of giovani galaxy and other congas. The sounds I make are comparable when tuned to the same pitches. Bongos, too. When I tune mine a touch lower..1/2 step...they are a litle warmer, without losing the crispness of the slap, or the deep thud of the bass. On the stands, they are pretty amazing for the price...off the stands, they only stand 28 inches, so on the floor they may be too short for taller players...I'm not tall.

The pics don't do the finsh justice, either..they are gorgeous in person. I have since painted the plywood floor discs a mottled navy/black for placement in my church. They really help project the sound over the carpeted stage. I am on a tight music budget, and would do it again in a heartbeat with over two years playing on these. Thanks for asking.

-God bless

Ron

Hi congamyk,
You raise some good points and I think it's really up the moderators to address them.

I did though, want to share with you an experience I had. In another forum I was contending that all clave-based music is based on a cycle of four main beats. Believe it or not, the discussion degenerated into a flame war. The moderator stepped in a couple of times, advising the participants to chill. No doubt the moderator would have shut us down if the discussion continued in a negative manner.

My point is that it wasn't the issue of four main beats which was offensive, but rather how the participants were communicating.

Thankyou.

Though this is not a religion forum, it is a drumming forum, my issue with the topic is the way people are addressing each other due to the sensitivity of the topic and what it has degenerated into.

Religious and political debate are best left out of this forum.

Gday all

Seems like this thread has no end. As it has been said it is hard to seperate what one does (drum) from who one is ( a Christian). But, If I could add; that that I am a child of God, Through Jesus Death On the Cross and that I happen to drum. Drumming does not define me. I am more than just a percussionist. this is intented to my christian bothers on this thread.

If I can address all that have posted on this thread regardless of beliefs.

We (you) are more than a percussionist. you are you. you are more than the sum of what you do. And the way we treat each other (amognst other things) goes along way to determine who we are.

So far I have seen people being rude to each other, not respecting each other and nasty to each other. mmm...

So what can we learn from this experience?

Drumming and religion do not belong together? - As david said we are playing religious drums.

Drumming and religion do not belong on this forum? - well maybe.

We all need to chill out? YES

Does each person have their own beliefs? YES

Should we judge each other for personal beliefs? NO

should we judge each other (FULLSTOP)? definantly not

we do not judge each others drumming ability or lack there of or judge each other on other threads. So why do we do it here?

But I think that the best lesson we can learn - IS THE NEED TO TREAT EACH OTHER WITH RESPECT AND UNDERSTAND.

My 5 cents worth
God Bless

Picador,

I have kept out of this up to now.
I couldnt agree with you more, that we should respect each other and understand our differences.
However we should do it quietly, respect is something we should give to each other as humans on the same planet, lack of respect is not the preserve of the non-Christian (if you will excuse the triple negetive). We all have a common interest, drumming and music, this is our common cause and should be the stuff of this forum.
Each one of us has a reason for doing it, inner happiness is probably a good start and whether that is achieved though Allah, Buddah, God, money, fame or adoration (in no particular order) is irrelevent to this forum. I play drums because it puts me in a place I can forget everything else except what I am doing, inner peace maybe, but not religion, and I feel we all share this in one way or another.
I have true respect for all the contributers on this forum, even the mischievious ones, and will uphold the right for free speech on this forum provided it is about drumming.

Right, Im off the soapbox, now lets play tubs!!
Peace

As a Taoist, I believe that if you proclaim you play for God, you are not.

Examine your needs to make these proclamations.

Everybody plays for 'something'. You are serving something... or someone. It's human nature. And we all know deep in our hearts what it is and why we play. It doesn't require a philosophy or special insight.

As a Christian, giving glory to God is the point. The bible tells us to do that, and stating it clearly as our purpose makes the goal perfectly clear, that's all. We don't get anything for it, in terms of satisfying personal needs. In fact we often suffer for it or are at least ridiculed eventually. It's okay. Glory to God is important. It is easy to get self-centered, so frequent examination of motive is a good idea too (agreed...I think that's what you are getting at). Keeps us honest.

God bless!
