A very firm hello to all contributers to the forum. I haven't been on much lately but I'm still playing away!

Can anyone recommend me some good Bomba recordings? A quick scout on the net has given me names like 'Los Pleneros de la 21', and 'Viento de Agua'. Where should I go? These? Others?

Thanks

Simon

Hi Simon B,

Look out for recordings by:

Modesto Cepeda
Hermanos Ayala
Paracumbé
William Cepeda y Afrorican Jazz
Grupo Afroboricua

Also make sure and get Cepeda:Dancing the Drum. It's on our own drum brother and forum member David Peñalosa label Bembé Records. This CD features the percussive talents of the late Luis "Chichito" Cepeda.

Saludos,

Jorge Ginorio

Hi Congaforum,

For those interested in Bomba and Plena. Attached is a link to a very nice historical-social compendium about the origins and developments of Bomba and Plena in Puerto Rico. Redacted by Luis Manuel Alvarez and Angel G. Quintero. Time to work on that spanish!

Hi SkinDeep,

There are many "buleos" de Bomba also with many regional variations, but nothing near the 250's. From who or where do you get that info?
