Conguero's,

Checking in with you all to see if there is a "Throne" of choice amongst the conguero's ... I tried out a Pork Pie that was pretty sweet but $$.

Gracias por todo,
Best regards,

Michael

Alafia Abure CongaKing!

I actually have a PorkPie and a Roc-n-Soc (hydrolic), and I waiver between the both. The PorkPie is actually the most comfortable however, I'm afraid that you're going to have to consider the sacrifice ($), for your comfort!

Like the congas do, it'll pay itself off in a gig or two! :D :D

Hola Onile!

You're right! Did you get your 3rd Gon Bops CA Series yet? Is your set candy apple red or a different color? looks nice in the pics!

What part of the States are you in and are you playin' anytime in the Bay Area?

Ciao
Best regards,

Michael

Alafia Abure CongaKing!

I'm actually just South East of you, Phx. AZ! Dio'mio! its' gettin' hot out here!

As for the third Supertumba, nope not here yet. I was told by "Nick" that the projected date was June 16th. He did say that he was going to follow it and see what he could do to get it to me sooner, I hope!
Yeah! It's Candy Apple Red. I was waivering between that and the color you selected, so please post some pics of them when you get them. I know that they're going to look slammin' brothelito!

As for giggin' in the Bay Area, yeah! I wish! I'm more of a centrally located percussionist, that is until after Jan. 07' (next year). I will retire from my day gig (Supervisor of two Teen Parent Programs for the City of Phoenix), then it's music, music, music! I've been doing the resort circuit out here, which pays quite well ($175 - $250 per gig), not bad for a couple hours of work.

It's crazy the way this works out here, but there is a handful of agents that have their grubby little paws on the entertainment circuit for the Five-star Resorts out here, and as far as percussionists go, they have a list of probably 5 guys, of which I'm second on the list. The main reason for that is, this cat, who happens to be a good friend of mine, Eddie Katz, is in the first running because of his availability. It's all he does, so naturally his name is who is first. As for skill level, well you have to be able to play whatever is thrown at you, afterall, there is no rehearsal. I can get a call in the morning for a gig later that afternoon and I have to be able to make it, or they go to the next person on the list.

I've actually had a great time with this arrangement. Life has been good!

Many blessings!

Onile!

Oye Onile!

I hear it's so hot in AZ that even the scorpions have umbrella's! :D You know, I was torn between the candy apple red and the Tobacco/Koa wood colors that I selected as well ... should you ever want to change congas (for a while) we should talk (down the road, way down the road) ...

Thanks for the info on you and the throne ... I'll mostlikely pick up the PorkPie when my congas are ready ... by the way, GonBops have tours every Friday at 2pm ... you have to call 800-45-drums to set it up!

Keep playin', Jan '07 will be here sooner than you know then the fun begins!! I'm happy for you Onile! You may want to give notice to the cat in the #1 spot that his ranking will soon change come Jan '07!
Best regards,

Michael

Gracias por todo,

I had a nice cheap throne base, double braced, probably a $20 throne. The seat part really sucked - no cushion and too small. I cut a new board out of 3/4" plywood and had it recovered with that high density foam. It will rival any Pork Pie throne. and you can get the covering any color you want. Total cost for throne base and recover job, about $40.

I can vouch for it in a motorcycle seat I made...hopefully your stages won't be as bumpy as the roads out here :D .

God bless!

Alafia Abures Bongoron and Mangorockfish!

That is an excellent suggestion! Econimically sound, and you can have it in whatever material you choose! Now if I had two brain cells to rub together, I might have thought about that before I went and paid the $ for my porkpie :p :D :D

Definitely something to take into consideration the next time!

Many blessings!

In La. we have dollar stores, a buddy of mine on msn is in california he says they have .99 cent stores so Im sure in your area you have some cheapo depo's. I got a fold up stool its only seated height and has a small round padded area for your rump works great esspecially for me because where I play on stage the other musicians have to walk right behind me on and off constantly so when I get up and move or leave my exellent drum throne I can easily fold it up and lean it on my drums. Best off all it was like 5 bucks :-)

My cajon is my throne and an instrument which sounds much better than a stool, and you can store stuff in it.

You can make one for a few bucks, buying one is probably more expensive than a throne, but if you are thinking of getting one anyway your 'throne' will cost you zip IYKWIM

I've gone through a few cheap seats, and because
they were light they'd often fall over when I got up and
switched to other drums. I threw one out two days ago.
I now switched to a heavy duty very firm DW drummers
stool. ~ A birthday gift from my parents.
I usually do 3 to 4 hr. gigs, so the support is important.
I had a roc'm soc'm mototrcycle style seat before, but
I'd get too hot and uncomfortable with the part sticking
out. (Hey I need some air down there!!) I got rid of it.
It's important to be comfortable and take care
of your posture for the long run.

Yeah I guess if you put a seat through some rough usage cheap isnt a way to go, I play a few nights a week at my church but the seat isnt being moved around too much so it serves me ok for now and im a light fella :-) that helps.

Those days are long gone for me.... :D ...I stand anyway. When I play seated on occasion, a chair works for thew 25-30 minutes I might do it. I saw a video of me playing a gig. Now I understand why I'm so tired afterwards. Gets pretty busy over there  ...maybe a stury stool isn't such a bad idea :D . I may make a cajon and use that. Where is the Pork pie available?
