Simple question... LP Matadors vs. Luis Conte Meinl Congas.
On price, it seems the Conte's beat the LP Matadors on most websites online...but what I read, it seems Conte's are more professional grade than the Matadors.
What are people's impressions of these two lines? Anybody own these pairs?
I'v eplayed matadors and I was surprised with their really good quality...never played Luis Conte ones, though.
I played Conte's I own one, but never played or owned matador.
As for as I can tell this is a great drum, others here that play for a living swear by nothing but galaxy's and and top of the line LP's but they will say these suck cause they rather spend bigger bucks,. if your one that wants top notch and wanna spend bigger bucks, get top LP or pearl, these are congas it an affordible price.
Great quality great sounds love the fat shaped shell, abukaku says he dont like the skin compaired to other LP drums I cant say because I havnt played higher price range LP drums, I have played lower range I own a LP aspire tumba and its equivilant in skin feel to me, but the shell of the conte is much more quality then the aspire naturally because aspire is a entry level drum.
The Luis model is more of a mid level drum in my opinion, it may not be top of the line and is certainly not anything lower. Maybe thats the misconception people are compairing these conte's to a top of the line drum, its not a top of the line drum its more of a mid level. But it looks great, sounds great, and feels great and the price is right for all the above greatnesses
Hey Firebrand, I put a reply to your question but it was in a different part of the Congaboard. I prefer the Matador congas to the Meinl that I have played. The open tones on the matadors are very clear and project well. The slaps on the quinto are sharp and really cut. I wore out the original heads and replaced them with a higher quality and they sounded even better. Everybody is different but for me the Matadors really work.
Villa Music distributes Meinl and Tropical Music LP's. Go and try 'em! It's a lot more funnier than buying online.
I have Matador quinto & conga that have nothing to envy LP wood congas, soundwise. The hardware is excellent, also. Change the stock heads and that's it. You can find a set of Matador Customs w/stand at a very nice price at Tropical.
I think that Luis Conte's are a bit warmmer. Don't know if there is a certain volume/projection diference.
