While loafing in a Memphis record store I saw some hip young people's mag called Wax Poetics. Unfortunately, no nudes of Britney inside, but an interesting post-humous assessment of Jazz flautist Herbie Mann's career. Among some great old pics was a shot of Patato playing what looks like two Echotone congas, but get this, he was using a Zim Gar as a quinto!!!! JC or any other old timers out there remember those venerable hecho en Mexico cheapies? That was my first drum!!!!!!!!

Sorry but I'm an old fart, and I didn't actually buy the rag. Besides, I don't have a scanner anyway. But it would be great if one of you young hipsters who actually read Wax Poetics would post it. Well its' time for my Geritol................with rum, of course!!!

I get hold of the mag now and again - it's a pretty interesting read (I'm a bit of a hip-hop head at heart). I'll look out for it.
