it nice to salute you once again!!! i was wondering how can i use this cancionero rumbero while playing guaguanco , ruimba on congas??i want to sing the lyrics, even though i don't sing much, but do chorus with the school band. i sure know a lot about theory and ''solfeo'' in spanish. can't remember the word in english. i was thinking dividing the sillables in fours and twos on top of the clave. do you have or know a method??or you have to know how to sing?? also are there any recording of these ''cancionero songs'' ?? i just love this kind of music!! gets to my soul!! yes!! ache!!! cuidate siempre ok, mi bro!!! franc

Hola Franc,

Igualmente mi hermano! Cancionero Rumbero provides lyrics, rumba style, performer, and CD information from which the lyrics were taken from, but no actual melody lines. You will have to learn melody lines by listening to the CD's. I would say choose some you like and get the CD's. Memorize the lyrics and learn the melody lines of the verses or coros. If you are already singing coros, this won't be that hard for you. Get your claves out and start learning how the coros align with the clave, etc. and then play along with the CD. After you have mastered this down, you can move on to guagua or individual drum parts if you want. Trust me, this will take your independence to the next level.
