I send you straght to tracks, just becouse I steel can't make a story on English. ???
This band, as said one my friend and colegue is "a pilot progect of Dmitry (of mine) to be able to practice congas" That was a joke, but realy, then I came back from Moscow 3 years ago as a percussionist (I went there as a trumpeter, to have the best trumpet teacher in Russia and some job!), it was hard to convince everybody that I realy can play tumbas. I didn't want to wait if anyone invite me to play such a music I want to, I formed a combo, to play Descarga Jams in clubs of Petersburg (quartet +). Here are some musicians able to play afro-cuban music, you've heard the best of them, on my opinion. We started from one horn, and I have problems with timbalero or a drummer, now I have to make arangements for four horns (real orchestra, great reason to learn to!), becouse it's hard to leave anyone we played with, all of them want to play! We also have four drummers; timbal, tumbadoras, bongos, drum set. It's cool, we can change each other, can use guiro, maracas, chekere if we need, I can take a trumpet solo on some of songs, and standing in front of the band sing a beautiful song (like bolero or something like this) or dance. Wonderful, I can use all of my skills with my band! We have some numbers with Bata drums, and some rumba, four drummers, it's cool, and some are wating to join us. It's like a real community of afro-cuban music lovers. Here was a lot of bands in SPb started from orchestras, now became a trios, to play in restorants (pitiful), Our story is the opposite.
Sounds too cool...
One thing, unfortunatly, we don't have so much gigs to play such a big group.
Few local Jazz Clubs, some salsa parties (not so often that we want), jazz Fests.
I think more and more about marketing of our band (one more thing to learn, always learning!), I'm tryin to vary the repertuar, make it danceable for people who doesn't know anything about salsa, cha cha cha (like Bugaloo, Funky Latin Soul) I feel, it's the time for real work coming, we're planing to make the CD with our tunes, but there are so many lovely tunes I want to play (great thanks for composers who've make this music!), and I'm not sure, if you have to definitely compose yours, if sure, it's not natural for you.
One more thing, what do you thing about situation? There are a band Rumba Jazz in California, US, I didn't now about it, what to do? ??? "RumbaJazz SPb", how it sounds?

Hey Dmitry, you've got nice sound! I wish there was a band like this in Riga that I could join ... regarding your question in the other thread about popularity of latin music in Riga - it could be better.

Latin music is rarely heard live around here, I'd say just a few times in a year, so when somebody comes the venues are usually full. But those who come are mainly listeners, there are not that many active dancers, I'd say only a hundred or two, so we don't even have a single dedicated latin club yet, just some salsa parties here and there.
It would be very cool if you came with your band!

This is one of my greatest dream to come to Riga! Then I was a schoolboy, my class was going there, but I had bad marks, and I've been punished by dad. So, I steel have not been to Riga
But seriously, my task number one, is to make my band touring, performing on some jazz festivals. Here is not anouth space for us in SPb. Can you tell me about jazz fests in Latvia?

Welcome! Dmitry,

Great sound from your band. You have a good style on the congas. Wish the sound person had given you more volume. The horns are tight, and I was really impressed with the sax solos. I'd like to hear something from you guys using the acoustic piano. I really prefer the acoustic sound for the piano. I really like the montunos that were played. Keep up the good work.

As you could hear, our sound masters don't give a volume for tumbadoras, that's becouse they doesn't know that there is a big role for them in music we play, and think that percussion is just kind of a decoration I'm tired to fight with them!
I like the sound of the acoustic piano, but we play with two different piano players, so I give them a freedom to choose the sound. Besides, in the jazz club we usualy perform, piano never tune, so we have to use a keyboards.
Our band sounds different, for example, if we dont have a trumpeter, and I can't replace him playing tumbadoras, so one of of sax players use a soprano to play first voice.
One thing never changes, we always enjoy playing together.
