Hey!

I'm hoping one of the Pearl Elite players on the board could help me out by letting me know which Remo Fiberskyn head to use on my conga drum (11.75"). The head that Pearl shipped with is driving me nuts and HAS to be changed, but I don't want to deal with natural skins until I take delivery on my new custom set. I've heard a number of people at shops claim that the Remo charts are almost meaningless, so I'm not sure which one fits.

Thanks in advance!

BTW, I begged Pearl to sell me the crowns from the Folkloric set so I could put traditional crowns on my Elite drums, but I got the runaround for over 2 months. Apparently they have the most amazing sick-time policy in corporate America because every time I called the guy I needed to speak with was "out sick".

Richard,

Pearl has the following information in their site regarding replacement heads and it addresses the Remo heads too!

http://www.pearldrum.com/03_nuupdts/ppheads.html

The Remo Fyberskin 3 for the 11.75 is M4-1175-TC.

We have spoken about this with Remo heads, for bongos and congas. (Same applies for Evans).

Remo has a "standard" for each of the "standard" pro sizes of congas and bongos. However, they do not all fit well with all the manufacturers. (Don't know if it continues but before the only congas that do not fit the standard Remo sizes were the LP Giovanni's with the "new hardware". New means around 2001. Remo had to make specific heads for that model because of something in the rims of the congas). Therefore, it could be possible that the Remo heads do not fit perfectly. (Pearl makes that point in the site I referred to).

The problem with the Folckloric rims? Were you trying to contact Pearl directly or the store? Let me know.

I hope this helps!

Saludos!
Raymond

Raymond, as always thanks for the response...

I saw the chart but was hoping someone actually tried it out to know if it did fit or not. I guess I'll have to give it a try myself.

As far as the folkloric crowns go, I contacted Pearl myself after being given the number by a store here in NYC. I called 4 different times over nearly 3 months. Each time I called I was given the run around ("we'll call you back", "the person I have to ask is in Thailand", etc). They were nice enough, but after over a year in the Pearl catalogue, they don't list a part number for the crowns, so the store can't order them. I am very disappointed because I use many Pearl products including my kit. I was thinking of either going for Matt Smith's drums or the Pearl folkloric, but I'm so sour about the treatment over the crowns I fell like I don't want to buy congas/bongos from Pearl. I just hate the comfort rims and wanted to switch without buying new drums. Also, Matt Smith's rims make me a little nervous because they are almost even with the skins. I feel like I'll kill myself on those things.

Richard,

This sort of thing should not be happening. I am passing your comments directly to the right person.

Sorry it was your experience.

(Sent you an e-mail with more details).

Yep I had problems with the fit on my Elite conga too. I finally got it so I can play it. The only thing I remember about how I got it to fit is swearing A LOT. I like it now but  I haven't had to do anything but some minor tuning. I ain't takin it off again until I get some mules.

Peace,
rick
