Guys,

As part of the decorations of my elementary school music room (to be given to me next year in my school), I'd like to be able to put up posters of inspirational musicians, singers, and bandleaders in Latin-American genres.

examples:

Marc Anthony
Eddie Palmieri
Tito Puente
Giovanni Hidalgo
Ray Barretto
Celia Cruz
Hector Lavoe
Ruben Blades
Willie Colon
Carlos Santana

etc.

I'm having a VERY tough time finding affordable and quality posters depicting these and other music figures famous in Latin America through Internet poster stores. LP's educational department has been nice enough to send me 7 free ones (depicting Daniel De Los reyes, Raul Rekow, Karl Perazza, Armando Peraza, etc.), but I'd like to get a more varied selection.

I'm appealing to all the music fanatics and collectors who are my friends for help in locating stores or places online for me to purchase these posters. Keep in mind that this project is a labor of love on my part and I will be using part of my money to finance it, so don't break my wallet, please. :)

If anyone has spare posters they'd like to donate, please contact me by Congaplace message about it (or post here). It would be donating the posters for the decoration of an elementary school in a 90% Puerto Rican student-population town (Holyoke, MA) with major poverty issues. I'm trying to motivate these students to aspire to something better and if anyone can help me with these, the donation would be very much appreciated

In particular, do any of the rumberos out there have those old LP "Trust the Leader" posters? Anybody know music retail stores that might have extras? Even ONE copy of one of those posters would help in developing a varied gallery of different inspirational figures. Every donation helps, as I only need about 20 or so to fill the room up with inspirational figures (and I have 7 already).

Thank you Congaplace friends! Together, we can pass on the traditions to the new generation. :D

just giving this thread a little kick. I still need some help on how to find posters related to latin-jazz, salsa, and percussionists online or somewhere else.

Thanks! :D

Well, I've received my order of percussion instruments (about $2500.00 of instruments!) for the school program. Still waiting on where I can get posters to decorate the room. Need that help, guys.

Take care.

Firebrand It wouldn't hurt to email Martin Cohen at Latin Percussion and ask him since he was the first to put his drummers on posters...."JC" Johnny Conga...

first of all thank you, for the work that you are doing with the children of that community. And in maintaining the tradition of our beloved music and culture.
as far as the posters, i would try to contact the public relations person for every major brand of percussion instruments, Toca, pearl, meinl, etc. and let them know your story. they should have posters of endorsee's that they could pass along to you, and might even donate a few instruments, sometimes they can donate returned and refurbished equipment. also music store and concert planners are a good source to ask for posters.
you can also take images from the internet or pictures of posters and blow them up at a local print shop.
i wish you and the students the best of luck in this journey.

I was able to get 16 posters (double copies of 8 different posters) from LP's public relations person. I might follow that example and continue on to Meinl, Pearl, Remo, and others who are promoting Latin percussion.

I doubt Martin can do much these days, especially about such a miniscule, unimportant (relative to him) issue. But I appreciate the intended help.

In reality, all I need is about 15 or so (and I have 8 already). thanks guys! :D
