I've more drums than I need and I'm thinking of selling the following;
10 & 11 1/2 inch Sunset Blvd Valje
Sol 13" Tumba & 16" Titanic (yes a 16 inch conga)
Gon Bop 14" Super Tumba.

Any advice on determining fair pricing? Should I use ebay and if I do what minimum price should I except for these vintage and near mint drums?

I dread the thought of shipping them, wonder where to find boxes etc.

The truth be I don't play the Valjes, and the biggest tumba I use is a 12 1/4 inch. If I sell all those drums, I'll still have two sets, my Gon Bops, and my Skin on Skin, so that is enough.

These drums are easier to aquire than they are to get rid of ...... any advice???

The big gon bop tumba can a get a deeper fundamental note than my 12 1/4", or be tuned up to match it, the drum has a good tuning range. I prefer my tumba not to be too low, it should voice well with the quinto, and these big drums can go maybe too deep, you feel them more than you hear.

This true with the Sol Titanic, only even deeper bass. The big 16" skin takes a hard hit to energize it and get full volume, you need to be strong to bring out its potential, but it's a room shaker.

These sub-woofer drums maybe good for hip hop, but do you want them in your rumba?

Those larger sizes should bring you a pretty decent chunck of change, not sure what to tell you about pricing though, probably around the ballpark of 400-800 per drum depending on the condition, would be my guess. I'm interested in your Valjes, check your PM.

10 & 11 1/2 inch Sunset Blvd Valje $350 - $500 pending condition

Sol 13" Tumba & 16" Titanic (yes a 16 inch conga) $500 - $750. pending condition

Gon Bop 14" Super Tumba. $400 - $500 pending condition and model

these prices can vary according to ones needs, but are close. tumbas always go higher than congas and quintos, except maybe a rare size - valje 9.5 as an example

post a few pics if you can and see your mail

I spent $1400+ on the Sol Titanic and I'd need my money back on that one, it is near mint condition and very rare.

I spent $800 on the Gon Bop 14" Tumba, it is Oak, no bands, natural oil finish, perfect voodoo chrome rims, near mint condition. I'd need my money on that one too, or close to it, otherwise I'll just keep it.

I think otherwise your pricing is close, though the Valje might go quite a bit higher in auction.

Thanks for the PMs and inquirys. I will try to post photos Sunday, as I'm busy gigging this weekend.

Here is the Sol drums. They are like new mint. The one on the left is a full 13 inches across the playing surface, the one on the right is 16 inches.

For those interested, go to

www.myspace.com/bongodoggie

and look in my photos. The last three photos show the drums I am thinking of selling.

The first of the last three photos show the Sol drums. They are like new mint, the one on the left being a full 13 inches across the playing surface and the one on the right being a full 16 inches across. This 'Titanic' has eight lugs. The finish on both drums is natural oil, the wood is quarter sawn oak.

The second photo shows the Gon Bop Super Tumba, with a playing surface of 14 1/8 inches. The voodoo chrome hardware is perfect and the so is the shell, like new and mint. The finish is natural oil and the beautiful wood is red oak.

The third photo show the Valjes, a 10 inch quinto and an 11 1/2 inch conga. I would rate them as 'good' condition, some dings, no cracks, in the round, overall nearly new appearance and shine, but some wear in the details. The chrome on the conga is in fair condition, there is considerable pin point pitting which when polished with a rag is diminished... no flaking, just pin point spots and hard to see from a few feet away. The quinto has some pitting too, but less, very little really, but there is some, rag polishes to where it is hardly noticible.

So there you have it ...
