G' morning all! Ahhh, the motivation I get from just hanging around this forum has got me jonesn' for my very first tub. I've been hammering the Bongo for a few years now, so it's high time I expand my pallette!

Although there are lots and lots of good choices out there, the opportunity to play 'em all is slim...so thanks to everyone who has posted, your opinion is valued!

I'm looking at the new Pearl Elite Mahogany Conga PCW117MX, with all it's cool new features ( spline-joint, etc), but that's currently out of my price range. Enter the Elite Wood Conga PCW117DX...just right! But does it share many features of the newer drum? JC or Raymond or anyone wanna' chime in on this one?

Thanking y'all in advance~

Beside the "spline joints" and the mahogany, the hardware of the Mahogany series is different than the regular Pearl Elites. I saw and played the "prototype" at NAMM in January and the hardware is the same or close to the ones that the Bobby Allende's Signature have. (More comfortable and sturdy hardware).

The heads are the same and the "body" type is the same. (The Mahogany's, Regular Elite and both of the Richie Flores' models have the same body type and measurements, etc, etc. Again, they differ in hardware. The new Richie Flores, the Eclipse Blue/Silver has chrome hardware and not polished steel.).

Regarding sound...they are warmer than the regular Elites. (Heavier too...)

Saludos!

Raymond, thanks for the info! Man...the Mahogany Elites are sure tempting, but I gotta resist and stay in my budget (max $250)!

I'm sure I'll be happy with the 'regular' Wood Elite Conga. Dollar-for-dollar, it seems like an excellent 1st drum for me.

muchas gracias, te lo agradesco!

Glen
