Just wanted to know if there were any congueros here in the New York City area who would be interested in getting together and jamming. I'm in the Bronx and I usually head out to Orchard Beach and some times Central Park. Although I haven't really come across many rumberos in Central Park. Any way, give me a shout if you're in the NYC area.

Hey Tone74!
That seems to have died down, I don't really see them doing that anymore except for major holidays. I remember how they used to pull over so many people exiting the beach that there was hardly any room to pull over! LOL. It's all good, just means less drunk idiots on the road. Do you live in NYC?

I want to start learning some rumba parts, especially the quinto. Some of the guys in Orchard Beach who play are usually "toe-up", lol. I was hoping I could get together with some members of this forum and start jammin. I have a friend of mine who's also a student at the Harbor who plays congas and it would be great if we could play with other congueros.

I live in Harlem, and am interested in doing some jamming. I'm really not a rumbero, but would love to learn. I've been doing a lot of funk, soul, and hip-hop gigs with bands around NYC. Not much knowledge in folkloric music, but love it.

Hey Tfunk/Tone74,
I've sent you private email. Hopefully we can get together before the summer is over. Anyone else in NYC who would like to get together and do some jammin?

Tone74/tfunk,
Got your emails, thanks. I'll definitely reach out to you both and try and put something together.

J.C., good lookin out with the info. I had no idea about this Marcus Garvey park in Harlem. I'll definitely try to hunt it down. The last time I went to Central Park (last summer) looking for the rumberos, I did go over by the lake. There was this one cat with a conga. He was waiting for the rest of the group to show up but I could'nt stay and wait. We did throw down a few rythms, me on his conga while he played palito on the shell. But me dejo con las ganas! LOL. I'll troupe out by 110th and see if I see any action. Thanks again!
