After a few years of listening comments about the legendary Recording-Studios,(Sugar Hills),where a lot of Jazz,Rock,etc., musicians trusted their recording,I was able to get in as session musician(last Friday and Sunday), for some recording,and now I know why the recommendation keep coming,they even have the service of a Drum Sound Designer, it is a guy that if you go with a CD, (of how you want the Drum-Set to sound like),after listening,he would come with gears(including about five differents snares) to set the tuning as close as possible,then the rest is done by the producer and sound technicians.Also open minded(beside their experiences) to any subgestion which could be apllied.The producer, Dan Workman.Any other recent experiences?.Dr.Zaragemca

Sugar HIll studios is a known studio for good work. They even have a Neotek board in there , yummy!!

Snare ? , so you play trap set too? Interesting explaination about "getting the right sound". Nowadays, triggered samples behind the scenes are not uncommon depending on the production hoopla.
Since they have a Pro tools set up also, I wouldn't let it past me that they probably do if the producer is really hungry for a hit. Allthough sometimes it depends on who the "artist" is and what kind of label support is at hand.

Did you record congas there? If, so what mic did they use . How about the compressor flavor?

Welcome Tonio and CongaMik,…I would see how I could get something to put up,in the first recording the samples were in a webside which have been closed…To Antonio..I always was carring the drum/set together with the percussion,(I was a Rock and jazz players in Cuba),beside the hand/percussion…also when I came to the U.S…I continued to play drum/set with some bands and hand/percussion/timbales with others and two show bands were I was playing drum/set in some of the songs and Conga/timbales in others…I teach either one.Dr. Zaragemca
