Man I really love the look of these congas... the rubber between the wood and metal is cool. I also like the roundness/fatness of these congas and the Bauer Logo.

They remind me of Rhythm Tech pro congas.

Bauer drums are super quality, for me the best sounding production line congas you can get. I owned a set of lites for a while, and played on some of the cedar ones, great fat tones, nice skins, incredible hardware. If you can get a set at a good price I suggest going for it, to me they're a step up from all the Thailand manufacturd drums, and in some cases sound just as good as more expensive boutique drums.

you are very right about these drums. they are some of the best production drums available in my opinion. i have not played the 'classics' yet, but soon will. tony, 'blango', has palyed the lights as well, and finds them to be great sounding as well. the hardware is certainly 'heavy duty' and well thought out; as mentioned in this thread.

yes it is fiberglass as stated before. approx. between 1/16 - 1/8 of an inch thick, and only in the top 1/3 of the drum. it does not extend to the bearing edge, but stops about 1 inch down below that area - or so.

The fiberglass overlay is pretty much the same as LP classics. I wonder who desinged it first, LP?

Those Bauer congas look great, the belly shape is nice.
The lug bracket is an interesting design, makes me wonder why no one else uses the flatness of torque point.

Sorry, congalero, somehow did not notice that in your post. So, purpose of this layer of fiberglass is to reinforce the drum and help it stay round?
I guess then that's the closest thing to an arma you can get in mass produced congas.

I'm really thinking about these bauers. For me the other slightly cheaper alternative would be Meinl professionals, but Bauers look very good! Too bad I can't try them out, that's why I'm asking so many questions:)

The fiberglass reinforcing at the lug plates on the inside is a very innovative technique.
This is the location where the lugs can press inward on the shell and where the drum actually startes to go out of round.

In my opinion it is as good as an alma and has several advantages. It is lighter weight and won't come loose.

Possibly I can see it making the drum louder?? But the Bauer a classmate of mine has does'nt seem to be all that much louder, it's a very nice drum. With an attractive roundness to the body.

Thanks! Didn't know that Bauer had them.

Anyway, I checked out their Vintage series drums and, man, they're good-looking drums! Luv those fat, centered bellies!

here are some rough pics of a set of bauer classics that are in the mail to me. i will post better pics when they arrive; the owner was not a great photo journalist. traditional hardware, the two smaller drums have the rubber gasket and copper plate inside - tumba does not - said to be cedro ??? - look a bit more hand crafted ??? - same heavy hardware with traditional crown. when they arrive i will report more on specs and sound.
