Wow, great clip! Why the cloth over the head of the quinto?

Wow, that's a very high level of playing and understanding.

I think the cloth on the head may be to keep the volume down for the neighbours! Or it could be a way of improving the technique, particularly slaps. I have tried it in the past and makes your hands more sensitive.

Ok thanks for apriciate the video! I' m french and I live in Cuba since 5 years almost, learning afrocuban drum, but most of all sacred drum (Aña, los tambores batas), with Los Chinitos. This video shows Piri and his father. He was studying quinto with one hand since 2 o 3 weeks when I filmed that. I try to promote the Chinitos on internet because they are great musicians and great people. I' m lurning an playing with them since 2 years and they are my family there now.

To respond to John I' m lurning to play Mayor (Iya) in ceremonies so I' m practicing and lurning all the things and details that I have to know to accompany the singers (it' s very hard, there' s a lot of Yoruba's songs!!!) and maybe later the Orisha' s dancer (in the ceremonies the dancer "sube", the orisha come in his body when he' s dancing in front of the drums, imagine me playing Iya there!!!!! not easy...) So I' m practising every day if there' s not any ceremony to play...

If anybody whant to go to Cuba I can help, I know it' s a crazy country!

Hola tocayo, wow! sounds like a nice experience. You must be learning a lot of of things there. I am Cuban so I know how life there is, it must of taken you some time to get adjusted. I like the music of Los Chinitos. I've been trying to get some guarapachangueo patterns lately for 2 drums ( one person ) but haven't had any luck. If you can throw one my way I would appreciate it. I really like how guarapachangueo fits with the clave. I've been watching Piri and the rest of the family on a few videos. Tell them I said hello from this side of the world and if they ever come to New York I wont miss the show. Peace
