Hello everyone,

I'm in dire need of conga stands, I prefer to play seated. My son knocked one of my congas over causing a domino affect knocking all of them down and worst of all, badly damaging the hard wood floors. Needles to say the congas are stashed in the closet for now until I find a solution, i.e. stands. My CO (commanding officer) a.k.a. la mujer, says thats where they'll stay until I solve the issue. Any input on stands will be much appreciated.

Hola Bacalao,
Must resist the female mujer CO persuasion commands :D Men rule bro.Until the woman gets in da house:p

Anyway, you probably want something inexpensive no? You could get the Meinl ones and cut them down. Or check out some 2nd hand shops.

Though there are many to choose from, I am sure you'll get more frugal opinions.

Hi BACALAO....I like sit down stands too and over the years I have cut down basket type stands so that my drums would be about 1 inch off the floor. I prefer the stands with tubular legs as opposed to flat bar legs. However, I just saw a website that sells TOCA sit down stands for just 18.00 each. They are already to go. Here is the web link...

Get your self one of these, not cheap but cheaper than a new floor!
Your kid's not knocking these down for a couple of years yet..
I watched Sandy Perez play the h*ll out of 3 drums set up on
one of these racks!

I've personally seen the DW stand in action, it held up to some very serious action, definately a solid stand if you are inclined.

How bout leaving them in the closet and building a conga world around that. Then you and/or the drums can fall down and all is good!

I hear you brother, I wish I could do something like that but the closet is a little cramped with all the drums in there. Ideally in the future, there will be a basement shrine built just for playing congas.

There is a barstool and here is a picture of one of a Vilnius' (Lithuania) nightclubs interior:

Hi Bacalao,
I have also had a floorboard problem, but with my kids...

Well, as they have ruined the wooden floor too, I bought the Toca sit-down stands for my kids´ 10+11" congas! Because they tend to knock down almost everything in their room :D

Those stands are quite sturdy and do their job well plus they´re not as expensive as a DW stand (which is surely great) or worse, a new Lady

To be serious, I just don´t know if they´re not too high for seated playing - and I´m 6.5 feet tall! At least for me it´s uncomfortable, depends on your drum throne of course.

To avoid future trouble: perhaps you should look for a suitable practice room, maybe you find something (And I don´t mean the dogshed;-)
Personally I play my congas seated with out any stands either in my study room (aka my office) or in the basement room, at the door of which there is a sign that reads: "MUSIC ONLY!". That is supposed to mean senseful players too :;):
