BTW I am waiting for some Colombian pre-mounted cowhide for macho which I purchased at ebay. I am going to use them on Matadors. Let´s wait and see if they are any good.

Hola Buckoh.
You mention staying away from pledge, what would you recommend for cleaning finishes then?
I never used lemon oil, but wondered about uisng it to treat raw wood (on the inside of congas) from getting brittle? so its mineral spirits, would that more or less make it worse when dry? Wouldn't it also effect the glue on the staves.
BNB is right about carved staves, Moperc and Isla is about it.

BTW, could you make paragraphes in you great posts? It hard to read them.

Tonio, sorry about the paragraphs. I should have known better! The oil won't hurt the wood and shouldn't affect the glue. I'm not sure that the wood getting brittle is an issue. I'd say do what you feel is best.
As far as cleaning the finish, this is what Eric Kasner, the owner/maker Hydrocote waterbased finishes told me; using a 1 cup measure add about 1/4 inch of Murphy's Oil soap, 1/4 inch of denatured alcohol(more if its rubbing alcohol), and the rest water, warm if you choose. I use this before finishing, touch up, and between coats. Paint thinner(mineral spirits) works well if there is greasy, sticky dirt. After it, use the Murphy's mix. You can play around with the mix, you don't have to be exact. Good luck. Buck
