this is the same guy that was a topic of discussion in the past on this forum

the drums are in great shape, but just keep in mind what his reserve may be; he will not state it on line. my thinking is about $2.600 - $3,400. (he was at $4K once) so if anyone is bidding, keep this in mind as well as the drums are small sizes and appear even smaller when seen in person. ash is a loud wood and the sizes may be of great use to a person who is concerned about drums being too large on stage or may wish to keep them in close while playing.

the guy really is a nice person, but has been a bit wish-washy in the past on his price. one may wish to nail him down on what he wants before going through the long process of bidding. he may be evasive though.

PS: YOU MAY NOTICE THAT THE BIDDING IS ALL BEING DONE BY 'PRIVATE BIDDER' (private listing - bidders' identities protected) MAYBE WE SHOULD ALL TRY THIS ??? ; FIRST I HAVE SEEN OF THAT - MAYBE ONE OR SO PRIVATE BIDDERS ONCE IN A WHILE - BUT ???? HMMMM!!

ANYBODY THAT CAN SHED LIGHT ON THIS? SORRY TO BE A SKEPTIC, BUT I DO KNOW PEOPLE BID ON THEIR OWN ITEMS TO RAISE THE PRICE.

as far as private bidders go, sometime it is a strategy to bid on your own auction to drive prices up.

I'd be interested but not for the price I remember him wanting though, they are used drums after all.

He keeps going through this stupid exercise of putting them up for auction with a hidden minimum price that HE has determined and not the market.

This results in a "no sale" only for him to go through the whole circus again a few months later........

What a total waste of everyone's time and effort.

His high reserve, his "over the top" description (11 years unplayed, yadayadayada) and the fact that he has 0 feedback for an item that is over $1,200 and hard to ship..

........these thing pretty much guarantee he will never sell these drums on ebay..

The owner has a right to place a reserve on the drums, if he doesn't want to sell them for less than a minimum amount. EBay allows for this. In fact, every public auction that I've ever attended has also allowed for a hidden reserve. When the bidding is done, they simply say "didn't meet reserve" if it didn't meet it, and the item doesn't change hands.

But with public auctions, if there is a hidden reserve, they don't keep mentioning it everytime someone makes a bid. This is one problem with eBay's reserve system. It keeps reminding the bidders that they still haven't met the reserve and actually won the item yet, and so this slows the bidding down. He may still sell it yet on eBay, but it would likely be someone that is local enough to him to drive over and try them out before bidding (and to pick them up afterward). They'll probably be on eBay a couple more times before they disappear.

However, if he wants $2,500+ for them, then it would be highly unlikely that they would sell at all. Those Fat Conga'swith custom bags last week sold for $2,100 and are probably a nicer drum (and definitely harder to get). Twenty-five hundred dollars is not small money for two drums. That would almost buy a pair of Volcano's!!!

Auction finished today at $1,876, the reserve was'nt met.
Too bad, $1,800 is actually what I figured the drums were worth, a little more than $600 a drum is'nt bad, since these were used as well.

Then there's the shipping to consider as well, making the actual price of the drums higher than the bid.

Keep in mind this seller is a new ebay seller with 0 feedback rating, that has to affect the price somehow.

So the drums stay here in SF, nothing new considering how many times this guy has tried to sell them. Stay tuned for his next attempt.

I figure he paid Jay under $1,200 for the set of 3 back in 1996. Granted, he had to pay rent or a mortgage on the space where he stored them for the past 10 years.

Probably right, I bought mine in 96 or 98 (can't remember) for 800.00 recently sold them for 1500 which was a pretty good deal (12,13 cherrywood) considering a set went on e-bay for 2000.
