Hi all
Just one little trick.

My heavy weight (135 Kg) obviously generate some back pain, and playing seated used to damage my back. I also always felt the 'drum grabbing' with my legs very unconvenient.

So I bought a benji cord (spelling??). It is tight around the quinto and my waist, so the drum doesn't move and I do not need to hold it with my legs. The result is much less stress on my back and a certain freedom. The bottom line is that it is (to me), very comfy and unbelivably convenient.

Just give it a shot.

Tonio....Maybe after all your research into a new throne, you will still have problems with the back. You probably already know this but maybe getting one of those Back Braces that you wrap around and tighten with velcro might help your back a little bit? It is widely used in Fedex . You can always adjust it to your liking.

WBB, it may have to do with the players weight. I read around and Pork Pie Thrones, which is the most fullest seem to for the "big boys" as in weight. So that is a consideration. I'm a slim build so it should be good in general. Of course keeping in shape does help

Adkom, I think you are referng to a bungie cord. Onile recently divuldged that he uses it to keep teh drum snug up against the throne so he doesn't have to keep it up with legs. Thanks for your thoughts.

The breeze, yeah I have thought of using orthopedic applicances, but I'm stubborn. I never had good posture either, which I'm sure is hurting me now.

I think the best is to mosy on down to (yuck) Guitar Center and check a few out. I loath that place. Since my throne is falling apart, I'll just go with what feels comfy and versatile and durable. Also working up some back/abs excersises should help too. Its hard to find time these days. excuses, excuses. :D Them beers and food sometimes overwhelm the mid point-if ya know what I mean :;): But 6'1" @ 180 lbs ain't bad.

Aloha Gang,

I've had the Pearl Ergonomic Roadster series for over a year now and I luv it! The padding is very firm and the cut away/slant on the seat helps with not cutting off the circulation to my legs. I'm a rather heavy dude ( 250 lbs. ) And I can attest that it is comfortable even after playing a 3 hour gig.
That "Buy it now price" on eBay for $150.00 is a dam good price! Here in Hawaii I paid close to 2 bills. I highly recommend it. I also learned that good playing posture is the key to minimizing back pain. What kills my back is loading and unloading my gear for each Gig! :p

I have one of those Pork Pie thrones, leopard print with gold glitter vinyl sides (well thats what you get for buying used from the Castro!)..

anyways, it is very comfortable, very full, I like it better than my gibraltar. The Pork Pie is a great throne, it has one drawback for me, I'm a little on the short side and with the extra thick seat, it's a little high to use for playing bongos, but it's perfect for getting me in a position to play congas.

I'm not heavy by any means, 160 and 5'6". Thats the prok Pie next to the Gibraltar.

Well you can kind of see in the picture, the bottom of the PP goes as low as the Gibraltar, but the cushion is a couple of inches thicker, I can measure when I get home for you.

That's interesting. My friend uses a Pork Pie at his drumkit, and I tried it out with my congas (he hinted at getting me one as a possible xmas present)... but I didn't like it. It was too big. I couldn't comfortably hold the conga between my legs unless I was sitting at the edge of the throne, and it felt like I was wasting all that space. I should mention, though, that I am a stringbean: 5'10", 145.

anybody here by any chance a "mechanical engineer"???

I have a new design of a 'drum stool" and need someone to go in with me on it...it is truly a unique design for conga players who sit and play....I already am registered with the U.S. PATENT OFFICE...for another invention of mine that i have registered, so that part of the paperwork is done.....if so please emailme privetly and we'll talk.....Johnny Conga

BNB, I would appreciate it. For congas I like to have the
top height @ 21" For bongos I like @ 17-18". Most normal thrones are listed as 18" or so as the max lowest. Pearl does have "short" throne models.

Tonio,
My PP throne is just a touch under 21" about 20 3/4", my Gibraltar is at 19".
They are both under a year old.

Yesterday I received my Pearl 2000 Roadster (3 days after I purchased it on eBay.) And all I can say is that this throne is a must have for congueros.

Here is my listing:

Here you can get a new one:

Sounds good-- I'm really thinking of mounting a Pearl Roadster head onto my Roc-n-soc nitro tripod. Then perhaps I'll have evrything that I want in a stool.
