Hello,

Can anyone recommend a good book for intermediate congas? Something that gets into improvisation and stuff?

Thanks.

I'm working my way (slowly) through "The Conga Drummer's Guidebook" by Michael Spiro.

Some others on the forum have recommended it too.

Thanks, it looks interesting and I'm thinking of buying it. I looked on Amazon and there was one for around $30 and another for $77.00. I'm not sure if that's a typo but they looked like the same book.

Hi,
I highly recommend the vid "Evolution of the Tumbadoras" by 'Changuito' (Jose Luis Quintana). Comes with written music too. There's enough in there to keep you challenged for quite a while. (DCI Music Video)

Also 'The Essence of Afro Cuban Percussion & Drum Set' by Ed Uribe is pretty good. It's a 328 page book.
Has quite a lot of stuff for congas and drum kit + written music for rhythm section parts for bass, piano, guitar, horns and strings.
(Published by Warner Bros.)
