Hi All,

Anyone own or used a LP Giovanni Galaxy Series Requinto? I'm thinking of buying one and can't find any reviews.

Help would be appreciated!!

Thanks.

Hi Conguero,

I owned all 4 LP Gio's for more than 7 years, I sold them 3 months ago and ordered three Gon Bops CA congas and a pair of CA bongos. I haven't received them yet (3 months ago!!), but that's another story..

About the Gio Requinto: I was not very pleased with the sound. Slaps were quit difficult to produce, and there was a lack off bass tones. The requinto was however very suitable for melodic patterns in combination with the other 3 drums (high tuned accents). Though, after a few gigs I didn't use the requinto anymore. The Gio quinto (11 inch) is another story (very good slaps and bass tones) this drum cannot be compared with the requinto and is much more versatile.
Sorry, but I cannot recommend the Gio Requinto... this is ofcourse only mine opinion...

I have the Gio Galaxy Requinto, and I love it. I use it with the matching Quinto and Conga. Personally, I'm very happy with the slap, and the high end tones in general. I no longer use bongos with my set, since I prefer the more full high-end sounds from the requinto.
True, it doesn't have much low-end, and it doesn't seem to have much tuning range to play with. Nevertheless, it has a wonderful character that I can't approach with my other drums.

Charlie,

With such an endorsement, you got me interested in Isla. I found this video on youtube. It's an outstanding rumba, which I think features Mario on the Isla requinto:

Also, I accidentally found this demo of the Gio LP Requinto:

The Isla drums certainly seem excellent, but I won't be replacing my Gios just yet.

I would. I'm really starting to think about making that switch by late next year.

I OWNED THE GIOVANNI PALADIUMS.
AND I SOLD THEM, SO THAT I COULD BY THE DRUMS THAT POCESSED WHAT IV'E BEEN SEARCHING FOR ALL MY LIFE. THE GIO'S AND ISLA'S ARE WORLDS APART FROM EACH OTHER. MY PALADIUMS WERE PRETTY, BUT ALSO SUPER HEAVY, WHICH IS NOT A GOOD THING, AND COULD NOT TOUCH THE ISLA DRUMS, PERIOD.

GIOVANNI'S = MADE IN THAILAND, LAMINATE PLYS, WITH LAYERS OF GLUE.
LARGE CORPERATION THAT PUTS THEM OUT WITH NO REAL TRADITIONAL LOYALTY TO THE DRUM ITSELF. THEY WEIGH A TON, AND COME WITH SUBSTANDARD WATER BUFFALO SKINS, AND CHORMED STEEL HARDWARE. CUSTOMER SERVICE THAT IS HARD TO REACH, AND OR GET ANYTHING FROM. THEY ALSO HAVE A HIGH PRICE TAG.

ISLA-PERCUSSIONS= MADE IN AMERICA BY HAND, BY TRUE RUMBERO ARTIZANS. THE DRUMS ARE INDIVIDUALLY MADE, JUST FOR YOU. REAL WOOD STAVES THAT ARE CARVED TO SHAPE, RATHER THAN STEAM BENT. MUCH LIGHTER IN WEIGHT THAN THE GIOS. SUPER HEAVY DUTY STAINLESS STEEL HARDWARE. THE BEST COW SKINS ON THE MARKET, THE BEST CUSTOMER SERVICE OF ANY CONGA MAKER. AND THE SOUND OF THE ISLA DRUMS STAND ALONE. THE PRICES ARE COMPARABLE TO THE GIO'S. WHICH SHOULD MAKE ONE THINK ABOUT THE BIG PICTURE. ISLAS WILL ALWAYS RETAIN THERE VALUE, AND MORE SO, IN THE FUTURE! NOT SO, WITH THE GIOS. I STAND BEHIND ISLA 110% FOR GOOD REASON. THEY ARE ALL ABOUT AUTHENTICITY; AND GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE.

ALSO, PLEASE DON'T MISS OUT.
THE VIDEO'S ON YOUTUBE ARE THE OLD ONE'S.
PLEASE CALL AND ASK MARIO TO SEND YOU HIS NEW VIDEO, IT'S GREAT!

WHAT I'M SHARING WITH YOU ALL, IS REAL. THIS IS NOT AN EMPTY, OR STANDARD ENDORSEMENT. TO OWN THE REAL THING, IS TRULY SPECIAL. IT'S SOMETHING YOU KEEP FOR A LIFE TIME.

CHARLIE "EL COQUI" VERDEJO
