Hi Conguero,
I owned all 4 LP Gio's for more than 7 years, I sold them 3 months ago and ordered three Gon Bops CA congas and a pair of CA bongos. I haven't received them yet (3 months ago!!), but that's another story..
About the Gio Requinto: I was not very pleased with the sound. Slaps were quit difficult to produce, and there was a lack off bass tones. The requinto was however very suitable for melodic patterns in combination with the other 3 drums (high tuned accents). Though, after a few gigs I didn't use the requinto anymore. The Gio quinto (11 inch) is another story (very good slaps and bass tones) this drum cannot be compared with the requinto and is much more versatile.
Sorry, but I cannot recommend the Gio Requinto... this is ofcourse only mine opinion...

I have the Gio Galaxy Requinto, and I love it. I use it with the matching Quinto and Conga. Personally, I'm very happy with the slap, and the high end tones in general. I no longer use bongos with my set, since I prefer the more full high-end sounds from the requinto.
True, it doesn't have much low-end, and it doesn't seem to have much tuning range to play with. Nevertheless, it has a wonderful character that I can't approach with my other drums.

With such an endorsement, you got me interested in Isla. I found this video on youtube. It's an outstanding rumba, which I think features Mario on the Isla requinto:

The Isla drums certainly seem excellent, but I won't be replacing my Gios just yet.

Sorry but this video is mine and i do not use a requinto in this video but 2 tumbadoras, 1 conga and 1 quinto...
