In the future I will try to make sparkle finish. Pink sparkle or yelow sparkle, orange sparkle could be very very funky..... :p

If anyone know something about products and technics (sparkle), I'm interesting !

Another photo : the future hardware of PINK MAMA before chrome.

Galou.

Check with your local auto body paint store. they will have pearls and sparkles in different colors for car paint but, will work for almost anything.
in your case if you want to keep it pink just add the sparkles to the clear finish.

Hello,

Thank you Oz, I will ask car paint.
Hello Sakuntu It's hard to wait for me too !!! I think the more difficult will be when the skin will drying : The skin is on the drum but you have to wait and to wait again since it's dry.... :p

I think That the drum will be ready for christmas.

Hello B, it's because we have metric lugs in France, e-mail me when it's good.

The hardware is OK, here is a new photo.

I don't know what to put on the bottom. I'm searching a rubber in form of " U "

I find something but I have to buy 25m long and I need only 1m long....

Do somebody have an idea of product ?

Congalou.

Congalou,
For the bottom, you may put a metal band (aluminum) or do as I plan to do with a drum I have, look for a skillet that will fit ; new or used, cut the exess bottom out and whalaa! you have a bottom protection rim.

Congalou!

You are inspirational!

Olsongo, nice tip about the skillet idea! Ill have to look for one for my valje quinto.

Congalou, do you think you need a band at the bottom to keep it together in the long run? It looks very solid, but how knows.

I know Matt Smith will fab you as many bands as you like, it may take some time.

Ive tried to find a metal worker around the sf bay that would make bands at a reasonable cost, no luck.

Im going to start a topic about making custom bands... see what others have found.

I always liked the rubber bottom to the LP Valje cherry models of the early 90's. They have this solid black rubber foot that really worked well. Im not sure why others havent done this as well. Probably a cost thing, as it does protect the floor. I dont think it effected the sound significantly.

Ive looked for a similar pre-fab piece i could pilfer from some hardware item, but no luck so far. Im thinking... camping gear perhaps?

...man with that color, at least you wont get hit by any low flying planes :D

Hello congueros,

Hi Blango, I don't know LP Valje cherry models of the early 90's but I'm searching this kind of rubber bottom. It's only for the contact with the floor I think there is no problems for the sound if the rubber is strong.

I don't need a band for keep the drums, it's very very very solid !!! and fiberglass is reliable shure for a long long time.

A band is good when you have wood congas with solid staves and glue.

Hi Bongo, yeah the lugplates are paint in white !!! my tumba look like a big bubble gum !!!

Maybe I can sell it to the lighthouse for boats !!!! :O

Galou.

Hello Tonio,
You're right, it could be a good solution but I have try to glue vinyl tube for my first fiberglass shell, it's good for the floor, but I'm not too shure about the durability.

It's OK for a wood shell because the shell is thick and we can nail the tube on each stave if we want, but for the fiberglass, we can't nail easily and the shell is more thin.

Here is a photo :

Congalou,

Thank you for sharing these wonderful photos of your process. The Pink Mama Tumba is incredible!

Would you be able to share how much it cost you to build this drum?

Merci.
