Rumberos de Cuba is a great group, and the CD Habana de mi corazon is beautiful. I love to watch them, but too bad this video was shot separately from the audio track. Although the video is sync'ed to the clave at some points, the drum parts are not the same on the audio and video. Rodolfo Chacon, the director of the group, is such a great producer of rumba recordings and videos. Rumbon Tropical was extremely well done, shot in real time with the audio and video together. I hope future videos are done like Rumbon Tropical rather than like this one.

One of the reasons it got my attention was the video, usually you don't get that type of look ( rich colors etc. ) from Cuban videos. Hopefully they'll make more of other groups too with that film quality. I never seen Rumbon Tropical but I will check it out if it looks anything like this one.

Rumbon Tropical is one of the best rumba videos I have seen, high quality production, good AV sync, some really outstanding players, singers, and dancers. Rodolfo Chacon and Philip Ross did a great job shooting and producing it also. Definitely worth getting.

The tumbador on the left in the guanguanco at the end is playing a Moperc conguero conga.
Just thought I would be a drum nerd and point that out... :O

Yeah, you´re right, and fantastic technique and speed...!
What he plays reminds me partly of a bongo solo. Just a hunch, I´m no pro.

Well paced & nice phrasing! Clean sound on that video, so hard to get at a club. Thanks!

Good feel and nice phrasing!
Sounds like he's playing fyberskyns, really cutting thru.

JC,

Not great flow, but command chops and speed. She even has time in mid-solo to push back a curl of hair from her forehead. Many thanks.

This is a great example of jazz swing feel.
The conguera is Mayra Casales and she's a great story. Check her out here>>
