Hello there,

I finally decided what to get. I found this LP Patato fiberglass re-quinto-quinto-conga and tumba second hand and all the stands were included too.

I also have matador bongo and stand, chimes and stand, timbales, cowbel and stand, maracas, guiro, cabasa and few more latin percussion item for a reasonable price.

I was going to buy LP 40th anniversarry model but this is a good buy and i have 2 extra drums plus all the other items.

I am going to pick them up on Sunday. When i set them all up i will add a picture.

I have a question. Patato re-quinto doesnt exist. First one on the right is the re-quinto. Identical shape to the others but on the label its saying LP M Cohen.

Can anybody give me a clear infromation please. I know who M Cohen is but i want to know Abouthow did re-quinto included to this set as the set have been sold as LP patato to the previous owner.

Thank you very very much..

Masterdj........

Hi marco,

I hope you are ok. I paid £700 for the whole set. Previous owner paid £3000 at his local drum shop. I think he paid all the list prices.

I cancelled my order again for LP Classics. Classics were £600 for conga and tumba. This set up £700 and more excited.

Only problem is that i have to drive around 300 miles for going there and coming back. I think it will worth it.

I already started thinking about decorating my garage to have the full set up. I dont think i can set them all where my studio is.

Do you know anything about my re-quinto question?

I have another question to you actually. I had ordered LP rubber feet for my classics as i was trying to cut cost down. I am not going to have the classics now but rubber feets arrived from thomann! Congas from else where.

If i put them on ebay would they sell? Its going to cost me postage if i want to send them back to Thomann and i cant get my original postage back eighter.

I dont think Patato's will need rubber feet as they designed to play standing up. Their small bottoms. am i right?

If you know anybody who needs feet i can sell them for reasonable price. They costed me £33 including delivery. I can sell them 12 pounds each plus postage.

Anyway, i hope you are ok. I knew you will be the first person who would reply to my topic.

Thanks....

masterdj, Im very pleased for you bud. that set is amazing you will not be disapointed , Ive played potatoes and they project sound like a crazy woman on orgazm :D .
as for the feet Im kind of getting used to the sound now and i think ill be keeping them for seated playing . The pototoe are not just for standing up playing they can be used for seated too , Id keep the rubber stands and see how you go . I have stands stood up playing when i play static gigs with my bloco samba group.

So you is cosmic too you knew id reply first lol

masterdj,

Bravo! Under your given circumstances, I'd say that you made a great choice and you're a very lucky conguero! The 300-mile trip should be worth it.

Best,

Marco,

Tell me that you aren't serious about having played them "potatoes"!

And do they really project sound like a crazy woman on orgasm? I think I'd much rather hear the latter!

Sorry, I just couldn't help but take off from your own humorous comments! No offense meant, hombre! LOL!!!

Peace,

Marco,

You're most welcome! Having an eccentric humor? I guess it takes one to know one! :D

Thanks so much for the love, brotha! As the Burt Bacharach song, "What The World Needs Now (Is Love Sweet Love)", goes, "It's the only thing that there's just too little of." Peace too!

Sorry, this has been a diversion from the thread topic. OK, so back to them LP "potatoes"!

Hello there

I have my new congas here with me right now but i cant post the image! I think the size is big.

Umannyt, hello there i can see you online. I have a questions to ask.

What is the correct set up for 4 congas? I have quinto and conga at the front on a double stand and super quinto back left, tumba right back an an individual stands. I am right handed person.

As you know i am a beginner. I dont want to confuse myself too much. I want to start basic patterns with 2 congas. What do you think i should start with, quinto- conga or conga- tumba?

What skins do you use with your fiberglass congas? Original Meinl? Super quinto i have needs a new skin but i dont think there is 9" head out there as this super quinto has been discontinued for 15 years, all the new re-quinto model 9.75! What do you suggest?

Matador bongo i have been used on a bongo stand and the screw damaged(middle) the bongo. How can i prevent this happening?

I am really sorry for asking so many questions but believe or not you guys are great help for me.

It would be great if you could answer these questions for me. If you are free.

Thanks a lot...

masterdj,

Congrats on your acquisition of your LP Galaxy congas!

Re: problem posting the photo(s) of your congas cause it's too big, you can always reduce the size of your photos using the "Edit" function of your image viewer.

Re: correct setup for 4 congas, I'm not really the expert on this cause I use at most "only" 3 congas: quinto, conga and tumba. Also, I play mostly non-folkloric music; i.e., pop, R&B, rock and jazz (including fusion and Latin jazz). I have no use for a requinto.

I myself use 2 setups for my 3 congas depending on what type of gig I'll be playing:

1. conga (left), quinto (center) & tumba (right); or

2. quinto (center), conga (right front) & tumba (right back) similar to the setup that Poncho Sanchez uses.

Others can chime in on this issue.

Re: my Toca fiberglass quinto and conga, I have Remo Fiberskyns (tucked) on them.

Can't help you on your bongo stand 'cause I'm not sure what brand (LP?) and model you have. If LP, I don't know if I can still help you 'cause I have a Gibraltar bongo stand.

Hope this helps,

MASTERDJ,

THERE ARE DIFFERENT SET-UPS THAT CAN BE USED. EACH INDIVIDUAL WILL HAVE HIS OR HER OWN BASIC PREFERENCES, AS WELL AS, ALTERNATE SET-UPS. THE SET-UP YOU HAVE FOR A STAND-UP SITUATION OF PLAY SOUNDS LIKE A LOGICAL CHOICE TO ME. I AM A TRADITIONAL SIT-DOWN PLAYER. MY PREFERED FOUR CONGA SET-UP IS: QUINTO (CENTER), TUMBA (RIGHT), CONGA (LEFT), AND REQUINTO (LEFT, AND BACK). THE REQUINTO WOULD BE MOSTLY USED FOR OCCASIONAL/NICE, HIGH PITCH ACCENTS. :D
