Burke, I hope I'm not hijacking the thread here, but where did you get the rubber looking feet on the GBs? I use the LPs and they aren't ideal. Thanks, Buck

That buck, is why this forum rocks the casbah so very, very hard!

A while back there was a thread on LP feet and someone said they'd used the rubber ends for hockey sticks you can buy at walmart ($0.99 each). Being Canadian this elegant and cheap solution appealed greatly!

Those are them - I made one mistake and cut the first gap across the long end of the rectangle which was to narrow - the gap works better cut across the narrow part of the rectangle.

Six per drum seems to be nice and stable - only problem is they fall off when you move them but this I will get around to solving with a tack or perhaps glue gun one of these days.

Thanks, Burke. I'll give it a try. Maybe between the 2 of us (and possibly the rest of the forum) we all can make them evolve. I've never liked having the tumba sitting flat, although I've seen many players do it. Somehow they all sounded better than me! Buck

I presently have 6 Valje's. 3 of them are in excellent shape and the 3 other are being restored.

Hey Lou,

Those are very nice drums indeed. That Fat 'TUMBA' is what a tumba should be. Tom did not make many of the wide extra wide belly drums.

congalero,

I hope that you had a Joyous New Year.

You might want to refrain from using yellow color with your text next time. Against, a very light background they're extremely hard to read. I had to highlight them with my cursor before I could do so.

Anyway, I always look forward to your input, particularly re: conga equipment 'cause you have/had such an interesting collection.

Best, :D

Congalero must be the one vote in this poll that voted for

20+

actually I think he would have been safe at voting 40+.

One of the finest collection of congas anywhere.

maSSivedrums,

Aloha! Long time, no hear, my brother!

How's the weather these days in beautiful Hawaii, a place I wouldn't mind staying at--at least half of the year?

Your collection of Volcano drums are gorgeous-looking, no doubt!

I couldn't help but notice your set of timbales. They look eerily close to handcrafted stainless-steel JCRs. Are they? Please correct me if I'm wrong. If not who made them?

If they're JCRs, how do you like them?

Mahalo,

Aloha Manny,

The weather is great here. Kinda cold ( for paradise ) mid 60's. Waves are breaking big on the North Shore this week, 25 plus feet! The rain stopped and the sun is out. Great for the tourist who spent big srcipts to visit.

Yes that is a JCR stainless Timbale set. I just bought it from a fellow Conguero who was liquidating some of his arsenal. Have'nt had a real chance to play them, but from what little playing I did with them they project real well.
I renovated a spare room in my house as the percussion studio where I can close the door and zen out and get my fix!! On the rack in the back of the pic is a vintage walnut Valje Bongo which has a rare crown with welded lugs attached to them. In the front left is a Gon Bop Conga with a wood inlay band that I rescued from a Hare Krishna dude on the North Shore. The Oak staves were split and cracked. I re chromed the hardware and restored the shell and hand rubbed in 10 coats of True Oil ( the kind they use on gunstocks ) to give it that finish. Next to it is a Conga Tom made for me this past November. The shell is made of Chocolate Albezia wood and match grain staves which gives it a " solid piece" look. It has a thick steerhide head which gives it that ol' skool dry sound! Phat!!
I feel very blessed to have an arsenal of drums of this caliber and someday hope to pass them on to my grandson ( 6 months old) whom I'm grooming to become a future Conguero!

Keep on Poundin'... Aloha, maSSivdrums
