Hello,

I am looking for comments and reviews on the LP compact congas. Have any of you used it? If so what are the opinions. Also how between the LP compact congas and the Pearl travel conga, how they compare, advantages and disadvantages. Also how they compare to a full size conga? Can one expect to hear all the sound that a full size conga offers, from the compact congas? Finally, do you recommend the compact congas to a beginner or it would be better a full size conga? Any help would be appreciated

Thanks

Hi jrvp2004,
I own one LP Compact conga and a pair of Pearl Traveling congas and I have to say that the Pearls are hands down (pun intended) more realistic sounding. The Pearls come suprisingly close to sounding like full congas, with good slap, open, and even bass tones. Some members of this forum have used them for live gigs with success.
The LP's are more of a practice drum. While the open and slap tones are OK, the drums lack bass. I do use the LP's when I go on away on trips and want to practice quietly because they are easy to mute (by placing a towel underneath the drum and then playing on my lap). The Pearls, on the other hand, are relatively loud.
There have been some reviews posted about compact congas on this website, I would do a search.
Regards,
mco

I've owned both, Pearl is far better.

I have 2 Pearl Travel Congas for sale with traveling cases and snare stands for both if anyone is interested. kcskylinelover@yahoo.com

Alafia Abure jrvp2004!
Espero que todo este bien contigo en la isla del encanto!

Todo bien por'aca!

I have 3 Pearl Travel congas and I use them with my trio gigs, some times with a Latin Jazz Quartet also. They actually have a great sound, as close to real congas as can possibly be duplicated at the moment. I recently ordered the LP Douple Compact stand, which allows me to use one stand for two Pearl Travel Congas, I'm working on a way to modify it to put the three of them on one stand!

If you mic them, they sound even better 'cause you can play with the mix. I have a grand son who I'm teaching congas to, and I am considering getting him a set of two of the Pearls.

Don't get me wrong though, I use "real congas" on many of my Salsa/Latin Jazz gigs!

Hi all,

I have a set of Lp compact congas and they're great for practice/rehearsal. I wouldn't use them at a gig though. I would suggest buying a couple of good snare stands as the Lp bracket tends to bounce around too much. Mine is gathering dust in the shed.

I never liked the L.P. compact conga it was shy on the low end. OK for practice. The Pearl travel congas look cool.
All the Best!

Pearl is larger and heavier.

This is a NO Brainer - The Pearl is 1000% better in every way.
