Another mounting question

Quick mounting question for the pros. I've mounted with traditional rims, and found it relatively easy with patience and an extra pair of hands. However, now considering mounting with comfort rims and am concerned/curious how one knows all the folds/kinks have been pulled taut to the skin hoop since the comfort rim "hides" the hoop. (Look from underneath?)

Don't even worry about it. You will know. As you pull the rawhide around the rim you will know if you have taken all the slack out. And since the skin will still be pretty thick at this time you will be able to see the underneath quite easily.

Mounting with comfy curves can be tricky though. Just make sure you have strong pliers and enough elbow grease at hand :;): And it´s also wise not to soak the skin for too long. If it becomes too thick, folding it between hoop and rim will be more difficult. But it is certainly no mission impossible

Hi all

To make sure all the folds are removed there is an easy trick with the comfort curve.... Just look from below. You will see the counter rim and the skin.

Nice, I liked the yellow tool you used. Is it a scraper?

I used Tony Sternad's (blango) method last week on skinning my Gio's.

I used six of those V-clamps, vice grips, wide blade putty knife, and a pack of razor blades. No strings, holes, or other gizmos.

As a first timer, it took two tries to get the head level and at the correct height. I did not have to use any type of lug extender either. The clamps made it REAL easy to redo and fine tune the mounting. Just take the little plastic tips off of them.

Also, muy importante, after mounting and during the drying process, tighten the head about 1/4 to 1/2 turn every 5 hours to prevent sagging.

In fact that is exactly what it is, a flexible/plastic scraper!
I noticed on one of Abure Isaac's posts that he uses what seems like a metal circular thing which fits between the excess skin and the crown.

I just started using the closest thing that worked.
