Abakua--- Thanks. How does he keep all those balls in the air perfectly?

Larent-- Thanks. Very excellent lesson in clave vs quinto. I see my next challenge.

WOW, thanks for the links guys. Being new to the scene (lots of history with acoustic kits) it's an eye-opener. I'm really enjoying all the posts and video links.

Wild videos! Thanks!

Abakua, nice solo - solid, tasty and far out stuff all at once. Super taste and sound!

I hope you one day have a chance to also check Cockspur, Appleton, or better yet Demerrera rum from Guyana.

Best I ever had was a home made white rum a friend's pop made in St. Lucia, buried and re-found while gardening, 20 years later. Mmmm. Good I wasn't videoed playing after that taste...

Pakito Baeza, he is in Spain, I first came across him in March of 2006, almost a year ago.. Very nice work he does.

Here Michael Carabello with Santana in '71.

Note his effective but rather wild technique.

Well i can tell u a lot about this video...first on timbales is the late great "Coke" Escovedo, who was traveleing with Santana at the time, cause Chepito was in and out...also there is Neal Schon on guitar(who had a bad habit of playing with his back to the audience, and him and Carlos did not get along and then Neal quit and formed the band Journey later on)...Mike Carabello is a "park" drummer...thats where Carlos found Mike jammin in San Fransisco park(forget the real name of it)...and Mike wasn't a "learned" conga drummer. He knew what he knew and that was it....of course the rest is history....Johnny Conga... :D

Here is a video of the late great Patato. I observed Ramon Lopez with Stan Kenton 30 years ago who was a Patato disciple, and the thing I gleamed from it was the continious flow of closed notes as a foundation for a construction of melody.
