I bought an 11" toca head off of e-bay. It looked nice. It is nice. It doesn't fit on the player's series drum that I bought it for (the flesh-ring is too wide for the top-ring). I am in the process of buying an 11" Toca drum that I am pretty sure it WILL fit (higher-end drum). My thoughts are that I could try and take the ring out of the New Skin and se it to replace the head on the 10" players series drum that I have or save it to ultimately replace the head on the 11" drum that I am buying if and when it ever needs replacing.

I know that this is super-cheapskate stuff but I have even less interest in spending money on the (for sale) Player's series drums now that I have a nicer set.

In my experience, trying to save 10% of your cost usually results in about 80% satisfaction, at best. That's not just with drums either. I would recommend finding someone local who has some nice cowhide (don't use goat! ) or similar, and research how to prepare a hide for mounting on a drum. There really is not much to it. There could even be a percussionist in your neighbourhood who can show you how it's done. If you like, I can e-mail you with the basic steps that I follow and you can further research it until you feel confident enough to try it.
Personally, I find great satisfaction in playing instruments that I've either made myself or had something to do with preparing the finished product.
