RITMOBORICUA,

THE BONGO'S IN QUESTION ON EBAY, HAVE VERY SIMILAR SHELLS AS THE JCR'S. THE HARDWARE THOUGH SEEMS A LITTLE ODD, AND MISMATCHED. THE SHELLS ARE SOLID SINGLE'S AND ARE MADE OF MAHAGONY. THE SHELLS REALLY DO LOOK LIKE JCR'S. I HAVE WON THE BIDDING ON THESE, SO I AM THE NEW PROUD
OWNER. :D

I WILL GIVE THEM A MAKEOVER ONCE THEY ARRIVE.

I'LL KEEP YOU POSTED.

TAKE CARE,

CHARLIE "EL COQUI" VERDEJO

These are definitely not JCRs, they were by a Company named Caribbean Rhythm.
They were wiped out in a hurricane, so the remaining
stock was all sold in closeout sales a few years a go. JCR used similar wood
with a different weight & design 20 years ago.
Nice wood, but a bit on the heavy side. The hardware is very poor, but if changed
you've got yourself a great sounding bongo.

THANK YOU FOR THE INFORMATION. I JUST COULD NOT FIND ANY INFO ON THAT BRAND NAME.

ALSO, THANK YOU FOR THE INFO ON THE NEW JCR'S. I WAS JUST ABOUT TO PLACE MY ORDER, WHEN I SAW THESE ON EBAY, AND WOUND UP WINNING THEM. I'LL HAVE TO ORDER MY JCR'S NEXT MONTH; PRIORITIES :D

THANKS AGAIN,

BNB's,

(LOL) Thanks for the info, bro.

I'm just glad mine are of mahagony solid one piece shells, instead of the oak barrel staved models. yes, the hardware seems to be of poor quality. I will replace it all. The heads will also be replaced with some great Mule Skins. Even the shells, will be getting a Refinishing job. :;): When these are done, they will be "SUPER McNASTY" :D

yeah Yambu,
those shells look much better than what bongomania describes. Looks like a fun project, should be able to transform those into something sweet. Let us know how it goes!

I have had the pleasure of placing my order with Cali this past Tuesday as well. Besides a couple of my older drums, this is my first handmade, custom drum I've purchased.

Cali is the man, and I enjoy BS'ing with him on the corner as much as placing the order. :D

HELLO EVERYONE,
HERE ARE A FEW PHOTOS OF THE CARIBBEAN RHYTHMS BONGO'S THAT I WON ON EBAY. THEY ARE MADE OUT OF SINGLE PIECE MAHOGANY SHELLS, BUT THE HARDWARE IS TRULY POOR. I HAVE DONE A TEMP MAKEOVER WITH LP HARDWARE AND MULE SKINS. TO SEE HOW THEY SOUND AND JUST HOW THEY CAN LOOK. WELL THEY SOUND WONDERFUL!!! AUTHENTIC! NO RINGING JUST GREAT CLEAN AND TIGHT TONES. AND NOW THEY ALSO LOOK PRETTY NICE. WHEN I DO PERFORM THE TRUE FULL ON MAKEOVER THEY WILL LOOK BEAUTIFUL. I HOPE YOU ALL, WILL LIKE THE PHOTOS, THANKS :D

OLD HARDWARE SHOWN!

ROUGHLY WELDED AND PAINTED WROUGHT IRON RIMS. ALSO THE TUNING RODS ARE THIN. THE SKINS ARE THICK AND AND MILDEWED....

IT'S AMAZING WHAT SOME NEW HARWARE, AND SKINS CAN DO FOR A HURTING SET OF BONGOS! :D
