There is an ISLA Percussions Cherry Okonkolo for sale on ebay. Check out the link below. This drum is going to go fast.
Cherry batas are rare. ISLA does not offer cherry batas on their website. Here is your chance to own one.

Looks like it is being offered as a new item by Mario Punchard himself?? I bet the cherry ones will be offered on the website after this.

Folks, without trying to launch a debate about which drums are the best ... a debate that would obviously have no end and no definitive single answer ...

Am I dreaming or are the prices on the Isla website low?

Are they getting price agressive?

A couple of years ago I started down the road of getting several top-shelf congas ... and may be ultimately interested in a bata. I don't remember specifically whether Isla drums were priced lower than other drums known as among the best. I don't recall if Isla had a website where prices were so clearly advertised ... but those prices look very competitive now. Have they restructured or something? Trying to move a lot of inventory? I'm just curious ... I'm not knocking agressive pricing. They're also advertising short deliverly times for drums ... seems like they're stepping up all around. What's up with that?

I don't have any Isla drums ... but hey, nice drums, nice prices, quick delivery ... hmmm ... makes one think and check the piggy bank ...

Cheers
BMac

Follow-up ... OK ... right-right ... I'm not dreaming ... just found long previous thread on Islas ... they are surprisingly low priced ... sweet.

I was the one that bought it. I placed a high bid AFTER I found out that Mario does *NOT* offer bata's in cherry wood. It apparently was a custom deal that he made just for the one eBay auction. I did not know that when I made my prevous speculation in this thread about Isla possibly going to add cherry-wood bata's to his lineup. Apparently that was not going to be the case.

Mario told me that they are way too expensive to produce, and that he'd have to charge probably $500 for this small okonkolo size (and who knows what for the large size), because the staves are all individually carved out of big blocks of cherry wood.

At any rate, I also placed my bid AFTER the other folks here indicated that they were going to back out of the bidding.

This did give me an opportunity to drive down and visit Isla Percussions. BEAUTIFUL drums!! And Mario is one of the nicest folks I have ever met. I hope to be able to purchase some of his cherry conga's down the road.

I was going to place a bid myself but was afraid to because I wasn't sure what the price would be to complete the set. I am looking into the regular set though. You got a good bargain either way, congratulations.
