Being not such an expert I only can add that TITEBOND III is a very good glue that will the job with the Bauer conga perfectliy.

I have used this glue for reparing cracks in bongos and also congas recently. The might split elsewhere, but definitely not where the glue was applied. :D

Bohemian, that makes perfect sense to me. Too bad, because I sure like the looks of the shape on those fat-bellies. I suppose I'd have to make friends with someone in Louisiana/Florida and have them stored there for a couple years before moving them to California.

Are the shells mahogany ?

You could make a Rube Goldberg humidifier... or when not in use put them in the large plastic garbage bags with some kind of a dampener.. as is used in acoustic guitar sound holes.

There's a few people around here in SF that have these Baur's, they seem to be fine, actually, they are very excellent drums, with great sound and very well done hardware.

I have to go with Bohemian on the glue. Gorilla glue is good for it's designed purpose. Repairing cracks is not one of them! Titebond 3 is ideally suited for this task and is a very strong glue for wood. It is a PVA glue (Poly Vinyl Acetate) with something like 50% solids, if I remember correctly. It runs through a syringe easily and washes off with water when wet. When it's dry it is pliable, not like other glues that dry rock-hard and and will cause cracking in other areas if the structure is still under stress.

Bongosnotbombs, do you find that Bauers are bassier than other congas?
I just got 11 3/4 and 12 1/2 pair, but I'm having trouble tuning 11 3/4 up to where I'd want a conga be, it seems it's "sweet spot" is more like in tumba range.
Maybe that's why they call them sizes differently?

I don't really remember Bauer's being more on the low end than other drums, but it's been a while.

I think my 11 inch is very bassy(?). I just put a medium thick, dark steer head on it and it is as low as my Ritmo 11 3/4 even though I crank it up pretty hard. I have an 11 3/4 Bauer that I will put a new head on soon. We'll see what that sounds like. I think mine are Bauer Lites-comfort rim & light in weight. A friend thought they were Afromosia (sp?). Nice peppery smell. Buck

Yeah, I'm starting to regret I chose 11 3/4 inch & 12 1/2 inch set instead of 11 & 11 3/4
I thought I was ok with slaps, and I can get a good slap on a Meinl fiberglass set in my samba band rehearsals (it's a 10" & 11" set though), but it's a bitch getting a slap out of my 11 3/4 Bauer.

Yeah, the skins seem really thick, I think at least 4 mm.
