The Super Bongo one Piece Stainless Steel Rims

Postby Timba Pa Ti » Fri Apr 11, 2008 5:07 am

Hi another rare find  , one of a kind solid piece of mahogany with custom Stainless steel rims .It was made for Nino Segarra 's Bongocero by two artiseans P.R. that never made a bongo or rims and never met each other . One made the rims the other the Shells , the measurements 8 1/4 macho and 10 1/2" hembra .Willie complained that most of the mass production bongos were to small for him and couldn't get comfortable when soloing with the band, so, he decided to find some one to make him a bongo for his giant hands . a friend told me about it and went to see it, I took few pictures of it .It sounds incredible, Thanks to violin and percussion player Victor Ortiz from grupo Contra la Corriente and San Juan Habana

Beautiful bongos...Was it Jorge Miranda, from Ponce, who made the shells? He's a good friend of mine, and I know he made a super-large bongo identical to that one...for the bongosero in Marlon's band. Jorge can make some killer shells from the best native woods- and is a true bongosero having played with la Ponceña for many years, also with La Terrifica, so he knows what he wants in a drum...Saludos!

Beautiful drums.

Did he say what sort of money he was looking for?

Oye Timba Pa Ti, That's a gargantuan set you can probably be able to play it like a "bomba barril" too.
Who play them incredible hulk or the green giant? A very unique and beautiful over-sized set . I think
back in the day Roberto Roena at times played a set that the hembra was real huge and deep. Wepa
