by the way, the bearing edge is ideal, now that we took off less than 1/4 inch. The height diff will be easily corrected by a rubber bumper on the bottom to bring it up to standard height.

Hope that wasn't the skin that cracked Yaya's drum, I've seen that up close, that's about as thick as you could get on a drum. I think they had to have a lie down after mounting that bad boy !

Aha that drum is looking great, a million times better than what it was!

Hey Tony, what did you use to finish that drum? Tung oil?
Was that drum stained a little green under the brass bands? Mine is a bit,
how did you get the discoloration out?

As it sits now I have filled a bunch of holes with wood filler and waiting for that to dry,
looking forward to tons of sanding

Hmmm....I guess that, from the North American mindset (for one), one can call all drums--and almost all non-person objects for that matter--as female.

However, from the Hispanic mindset (for one), there's evidently a "macho" (male) drum and an "hembra" (female) drum, even among tumbadoras. I--and I'm sure others--have seen educational videos of Changuito himself distinguish tumbadoras as such.

You guys are amazing! As if I don't already have enough projects on the go, now I feel the need to start searching high and low for one or 2 tumbadoras as fixer'uppers!

That bottom band looks much better cleaned up, and matches the drum better
with your new color.
I was thinking of doing the same with mine, so your project is kind of like a preview.

As for my drum, it's sanded and glued, I'm just waiting for the finish materials to arrive in the
mail.
I'm going with a natural finish, tung oil. Theres a company that supplies a dark and natural color
tung oil, I'm going to combine the two.

But that bottom band, really sharp! Good work Tony, hope you don't mind if I copy you!
