I just bought a wooden tube guiro from the local big-name music store that is made by Toca. I like the sound and it also got the "thumbs-up" from a friend of mine who is a professional percussionist. It also doubles as a shaker. It's only about $14 Canadian and I've already gotten my money's worth from it! We were going strong for about 3 hours last Saturday. It's also much more sturdy that one made from gourd.
