Tonio Didn't really like the first video that much, maybe it was the fast tempo. Was that a variation of merengue that he was playing? I really could not get into the grove of it. The second one was much better, especially the 3 drum tumbao he started out with, however; didn't like the tone of the drums. The middle drum was by far the better sounding of the 3. I guess its hard for a drummer of Giovanni's caliber to sound bad on any drum, but the 2 outside drums sounded weird to me.

You didn't like the 1st one? man , Gio is killking there on that comparsa bro. It may be hard to hear the tumba so the pattern gets kinda lost for sure.
The 2nd one is actually a guaguanco . The segun, and tumba was dead . Not much tone outa the drums but performance was outstanding Gio method!!
I thought Gio went to LP's ealrier than when the videos were taken?

Just reinforces how much I hate the sound of plastic/fiberskins. Sound dreadful to me.
Brothers def got some hands though, he gets a little sloppy at very high speed at times, but he is well and truly going to be a force in years to come.

Exactly, I dont see what the fascination is with these plastic/fiberskins. They sound terrible in my opinion. Fake sound, just doesnt do it for me.

Anyway... each to their own.
