Moperc Cubano conga/tumba deal !!

Postby Tonio » Wed May 28, 2008 2:32 am

bros...
Michel of Moperc asked if I knew anyone in San Fransisco that might be interested. I might even jump on this

Asking price of $1000 !! Cubano model conga and tumba w/ gig bags.

I asked for pictures of current state. We will see.

Any takers? I don't have the details, but I thought I'd tell my brothers here first. No catch 22 or anything, just spreading the word.. Of course I will try to get more info, though he is very busy cranking out djembes and bongos.

FYI, if you have been considering buying Moperc congas, he is out of supply of shells at the moment except for a limited size/wood. He will start making more in .... September for various reasons he would not say. Maybe a sign that the prices (as with everything these days) will go up even more?

Tonio,

Sounds like a good deal! I wonder if they're made of maple or ash.

Michel's website catalog's model pictures show the Cubano as being made of maple wood. However, in his gallery of photos, Michel evidently also makes them in ash.

I probably would have been interested if I were still in the market for a new set of congas. But, as it is, I'm not 'cause I just fairly recently bought a set of 4 brandnew 2007 Gon Bops California Series (1 quinto, 2 congas and 1 tumba) on sale at my nearest Gon Bops dealer at killer prices (even way below that the LP Galaxy Giovanni)!

Best of luck to the lucky buyer,

KKonga, yeah I want to see pics too. He didn't specify when he would get back to me, but I said I would check if anyone is interested on the board. I did mention that a picture or 2 would be the best thing to go by for reference.
I suppose he will need to talk to his freind to get the pictures. Michel seems to be business 1st , so he usually doesn't email much unless its important.

Manny, yup , Michel makes the Cubano model in Maple, but on a special request he will make them in ash as you have seen.
I would assume the ones for a deal is in Maple.

Either way Mopercs are beauts huh?

good luck w/ your GB's, I'm sure you'll enjoy them !!

I'll spill once I hear back from Michel.

Tonio,

Thanks for your additional info.

Yes, Mopercs are beauts! I've never seen any in person. But, judging from photos alone, they're immaculately crafted.

Re: my GBs, as I've mentioned before, they have a brighter sound (compared to my Islas), project very well and are better able to cut through loud music. They have more sustain, flirting on ringing, but I wouldn't strictly consider them as ringing, unlike that produced by my cheapo, hand-me-down pair of Toca Players series fiberglass beater congas. The members of my amplified band just love my GBs.

The North American Oak wood of GBs is definitely harder/denser and, thus, noticeably heavier than the Canoe wood of my Islas.

I love my Islas, too. They have an even warmer, fatter and drier sound and with no ring. They definitely sound different from my GBs. For quieter, acoustic music (such as unplugged rock, Latin music and mainstream jazz), I'd prefer my Islas.

I just feel very blessed to have both sets.

Peace,

Hi Manny---Do you have any photos of your Gon Bops? What color/finish did you get? What shop did you purchase from?
Just curious.

Hey all.
I got an email today in regards to this deal. Not sure who it is, so to be fair I asked Michel the best approach.
Reminder that this is Michel of Moperc's offer, I just brought this up here for anyones benefit.
Michel said to give him a call next week @877-628-3482 or mail him @ info@mopercdotcom (spelling out dot since a yahoo bot is always present here). The drums are at his friends in San Fransisco - Moperc Cubano mode lconga and tumba w/ gig bags. I suppose mentioning Tony from San Diego brought this up in the forum would do no harm.
I will say that I am no way affiliated with Moperc or this deal, and would appreciate only honest interested folks jump on it and be civil with Michel and myself no matter what happens. I claim no interest of the outcome, and would hope for respect to all parties.
