Luis Conte Congas with Evans drum heads

Postby kubaszek82 » Tue Jun 17, 2008 12:53 pm

Hello!

I want to change my original buffalo skin on Meinl LC Quinto 11" and Conga 11.75" to Evans or REMO synthetics.

It is problem with TTR rimms. I don't know if it will fit.
Someone have the same problem? Any suggestion?

I'm from Poland-forgive me my language...

Hi, I'm sure someone can suggest the correct remo head, fiberskin I think, I've never heard anything positive about the evans heads and did try one once on a bongo and it sounded like a coffee tin !

Why, that would be the Fiberskyn 3 model, either Crimplocked or Tucked. I am the owner of the Tucked kind. If you get these, understand both the pros and the cons. Pros... you almost never need to tune these. Cons... these heads do not provide the traditional conga sound, plus, they WILL have excessive ringing/overtones. What are your reasons for wanting synthetics as opposed to some very good natural skins?

Maybe that's way, because:
1.I want the best sound from my conga set, better then original
2.I'm concerned about natual skins, how to mount it on conga properly.
During the time I contact with shop with skins, so good skin is no problem.
I mount several times skins on djembe, it always was unequable to rest of drum.
3.It is problem to buy better original skin from Meinl (importer sais, that skins on Meinl's congas are the same....)
4. something new...bored with sound of congaset.... :?

Do you think that this:

sounds better than this:

or this:

?

It's okay if you do... there's no right or wrong answer when it comes to people's opinions. I'm just curious. For me personally, as time has gone by, I've come to really resent my fiberskyns. They sound so fake, and they've got virtually NO bass whatsoever. To me, there's just no comparison between the sound of synthetic heads and that of really good natural skins.

Thanks for advices. I'm very gratefull.
I will buy skin from Polish Cow  :) I've spoken with a drummer, who changed the skin in his meinl marathon (old type-TTR rimms). He change it to skin from cow.
In his opinion, the thick skin sounds better then meinl thin skin.
He send me some sound examples - it's true:)

But question is still - has anyone mount synthetics on Meinl Conga Luis Conte Series?
I'm asking just for curiosity...

Jeśli chcesz mieć lepsze brzmienie swoich bębnów to ja bym radził dobrą naturalną skórę.

I don't have Meinl's but I can tell you the evans heads sounds terrible when i tried them on Matador Congas. I had them on for 2 hours before i took them off it was so bad.
