MATCHING SET JUNIOR TIRADO

Postby Omelenko » Tue Jul 08, 2008 10:21 pm

The name Junior Tirado speaks for itself (Mongo,Barretto,Milton Cardona,Jerry Gonzalez,Paoli Mejias,Louie Bauzo, Frank Malabe.....) I love congas more than money. Money comes and goes but a Junior Tirado comes no more. I'm blessed that I have 7 Juniors. I will keep the ones that are more beat up and let go of the ones in excellent shape. Will refurbish my keepers when time permitts.
This particular set 11 3/4" and 13" awesome big fat sound (mazacote sabroson). Signed and dated by Junior Nov 1999. In excellent condition. Junior was the pioneer in the States. Only other congas that can hang with these are Matt's Ritmos and Jay's SOS. Forget Gon Bops, Valje, won't mention anymore, I don't mean to offend, but I've played them all, even the real exotic ones. Junior rised the bar and was the yardstick of perfection. May he rest in peace. Set $1,399. Single 11 1/2" (tres golpes) $650. I'm motivated and the wife is pissed, catch me before I change my mind and keep them all.

Que bueno que regresaste bien de Nueva York.
Mi pana tienes un arsenal tremendo.

I told you early in the year i was interested, on your congas.
Both the set, and the conga, are gorgeous.
I want the conga from the Junior 70's.

For the guys asking what kind of wood. Both the matching set and the single tres golpes are Caribbean mohagany, more precisely Honduran mohagony. Junior either stained the mahogany or just put marine varnish without stain. All three are the same wood only the matching set was professionally stained and varnished.

Saludos,
