Ok So there is a twist to this story .
I originally ordered the Moderna style side plates 4 rings . But after a few weeks i changed my mind and amended my order with Mario.
When I changed my style coincided with Mario being very busy with a new Baby and e mail s were getting lost between Mario and I.
So I asked Mario if it would be possible t ochange the plates at this stage . No problem he said as the holes are exact for the moderna and mantanzas side plates . so here are the revised Tumba`s .
Mario has become a good friend and Brother I look forward to hooking up with him next year when he comes over to the UK to do some workshop studies 8)

I have inspected Mario's drums in person. They have an incredible dry-- yet rich-- afro-cuban sound. If this is the sound you are going after, then you will be AMAZED.

Yes I have them , and amazing they are too . Here is how my day went.
I knew my Congas could arrive today but I had to go out this afternoon 1pm.
SO In leave a note pinned to my door asking the delivery guy to leave the delivery with my Good Neighboor Ian.
I go about my business come home note still on door my young girl goes next door for the key to our garage Ian gives my girl the key while Im busy in the kichen cooking lunch .
I sit all afternoon twitching and checking the fornt Drive way every once and a while in antisipation. nada !
Ok so its 6 pm my wife gets in from work and askes if my congas had come No I say another sleepless night
She asks me to give the garbage can a hose through when I empty the trash . so I open the side garage door to get the hose pipe and see three large boxes sitting in my garage ..........Man!!!!!!!!!!!! I could nto believe I swear it felt like christmas had come early .
Thats how it went cant believe it .
After the past 2.45hours past I figured I should check in with my thoughts .
I know some of you guys have been waiting for my veiws . these congas are SICK!!!!!!! all three are amazing. the sound is so fat .

Mario is a my new best friend these Tumbadoras he made for me are very special and sound incredible I know they are nowhwere near there voice being heard yet ,Im paitient and cant wait , but for now Im in love they are awesome!!!!!

Also worth a mention I did not get stung with import taxes  , if your thinking of buying these and your in the UK or Europe talk to Mario he can work it out for you

Ill post some more pics in now they are in the UK in different light quality ,but they look very much like a mid oak in colour and the weight is unbelievinly light weight Im glad I chose the Canoe they will serve my need, en la tradition de la Folklorico Cubana. 8) :D

Soy un hermano muy feliz! :D :D :D

Marco,

Big congratulations on finally receiving your Islas! I'm very, very happy for you!

I know the feeling! Been there; done that. Words can't fully describe the thrill and joy!

Yup, Canoe is light in weight. But, be extra careful to avoid dings and dents 'cause Canoe is not as dense and hard as, say North American Red Oak or probably even Rubber Wood (commonly called Asian/Siam Oak). I believe these properties of Canoe (in addition to the thick skins) are what help give Isla Canoe their fat, practically ring-free tone.

Rest assured that the sound will become even better in the months to come as the wood ages and the skin settles. Mine did! Give it at least 3 up to 6 months.

Do post some pictures.

Sincerely,

Man that is so exciting! I was out in S Cal a couple times earlier this year but couldn't get away from work long enough for a side trip to Isla Percussion. Can't wait to see your pics.

Let the good times roll!

Great, Marco!! Congratulations! You must be a happy mofo right now.
Mine are still not ready. The only thing left is the skins, and he's still waiting on a new shipment of those. If they come before he goes out-of-town next week, I'll get mine then. If not, I'll have to wait until he gets back. It's an exercise in patience, for sure. I haven't even seen pics of mine yet, but he assured me he'd be sending some soon.

Hey Marco, you seem to have the pot of gold on the other side of the rainbow now.
My best feelings are with you, brother.
I have witnessed your gruesome waiting process on the Net with wet hands, and now, after delivery,
I am practically as happy as you about your new babies :D

Congrats and - enjoy them as much I enjoyed the part of your report about your wive:
