The drum looks terrific! Awesome piece of art, brother :)

I can´t stand the plastic skin on it though - but then, that´s just my problem :P
Of course it makes sense in humid climate to put on a Nuskyn.

Congrats again and enjoy this beautiful instrument, Charlie!
My two thumbs up!
Peace & drum

It's not his first choice either but it's what he had on hand for this project till he gets skins. So we can call it temporary i guess. The old skin needed replacing.

Nice! I'm big on that look. the way it was sanded makes it almost look like its a solid shell. Good idea to do on old beat up drums with good shells. Is the hardware brand new or you polished it?

I am a big fan of the old Matadors, they are solid and sound great. That is a great job on that conga, the markings look really vintage like that drum had been through some serious rumbas and had rum spilled on it, cigar ash, blood, sweat and tears. You had better be careful or LP will steal the idea and start marketing their Weathered/Vintage look Matadors!

Great Job charlie. Was the conga wine red before your "extreme makeover"? Looks like you sanded some of the red stain out then left section with it still there. I'd be interested in finding out how you got that look. :)

My first conga was an old Matador Quinto. Got it used for 100$ at a small music shop back in 1992. It was in great shape. I beat that thing! Now its being refinished. Still in the sanding stage. Here's a shot of me 2 years ago playing it at a picnic in the park.

MR. CONGA,
THANK YOU FOR THE AWESOME COMPLIMENTS! :D

VINNIE, THANK YOU FOR SELLING TO ME THIS WONDERFUL MATADOR CONGA, AND FOR GIVING ME A SUCH A GREAT DEAL ON IT. THANK YOU AS WELL FOR GOING OUT OF YOUR WAY, IN FINDING ME A BRAND NEW LP TRADITIONAL CROWN FOR THIS CONGA'S TRANSFORMATION, AS WELL AS THE NEW LP LUGS. I ALSO DIG THE WAY YOU SHIP. REMINDS ME OF MYSELF, (NICE AND NEAT).

VINNIE, THANKS AGAIN.
YOU ARE MY BROTHER, AND A CLASS OF ONE!
PAPA I'VE GOT YOUR BACK!!! YOUR CONGA, AND YOUR ONKOKOLO, WILL SOON BE ON THEIR WAY. GIFTS FROM ME, TO YOU!
(AN INSIDE JOKE!).

CHARLIE.

MIKE,THANKS FOR THE COMPLIMENT, AND YES, I DO AGREE WITH YOU, ABOUT THE HEAD, THAT IS CURRENTLY ON THE CONGA. MULE SKIN IS ON THE WAY BROTHER!

TONE74,
THANKS BRO! (THE CROWN AND THE LUGS ARE BRAND NEW).

JONGO, I LIKE THAT!
QUE VIVA LA RUMBA (OBATALA Y ELEGUA) JONGO, IF LP WOULD DO AN OLD SCHOOL LINE, THEY WOULD MAKE SOME EXTRA BIG MONEY, AND IT WOULD BE SO COOL FOR SO MANY CUSTOMERS; NICE.

SAKUNTU,
AWESOME PHOTO OF YOU, WITH YOUR OLD SCHOOL LOOKING MATADOR QUINTO!
ALSO, THANK YOU FOR THE PROPS. AS YOU CAN SEE IN THE PHOTO, THIS CONGA WAS ORIGINALLY FINISHED IN NATURAL LIGHT WOOD, WITH A COMFORT CURVE CROWN. IT'S THE CONGA ON FAR LEFT. I HAVE STRIPPED IT DOWN, SANDED IT FROM ROUGH TO SMOOTH AND HIT IT WITH STEEL WOOL. I DID NOT REMOVE ANY SURFACE MARKS, AND HAVE EVEN EHANCED THIER APPEARANCE BY ADDING EXTRA STAIN IT THOSE AREAS. THE FINISH USED WAS DARK WALNUT, DANISH OIL. I HAVE ALSO TRADED HEADS WITH MY OTHER MATADOR CONGA, FOR MORE EYE CANDY ON THIS PROJECT, UNTIL THE MULE SKINS ARE READY TO MOUNT.

THANKS TO YOU ALL, IF YOU ALSO HAVE MATADOR CONGAS, PLEASE POST YOUR PHOTO'S.
