The Rumba Table!

Postby bongosnotbombs » Fri Oct 03, 2008 10:29 pm

Well I guess I've seen it all now. Dinner party then rumba, why not, I'll bring the chablis.

Well officer as you can see, I'm not the one playing drums, just me and my friends having
wine and cheese.

As much fun as an African drum circle, except it's square.....and no Africans,
just pasty white people......anyways.......

As a pasty white person, all I can say is that I'm glad musically-inclined furniture makers are finally marketing to my niche. I look forward to many hours of satisfying jams on one of those tables with my melanin-challenged friends. Afterwards, we can kick back and relax while listening to one of my personal favorites, "Barry Manilow sings the best of the Buena Vista Social Club."

BnB
I think it is at least a funny and good idea.

I enjoyed the video - beware the dancing carpenter at the end

One reason why I would not buy this table: I have to little kids spilling all sort of
juice and milk, and I am not too sure if my occasionally toppled glass of wine
would do the table sound any good
Perhaps my motor-challenged family should abscond from this piece of furniture then

lol a nice twist on hiding the drums from the slavemaster.

This is hilariously cool while also being very disrturbing. On the one hand I'm repelled and ask WHAT-WAS-HE-THINKING? On the other, I'm impressed with the ingenuity of the crafstmanship. I've always thought I could make a mint selling DASHBOARD DRUMS, touch sensitive patches that can be attached to steering wheel/dashboard etc which would produce conga sounds through your car speaker system for those of us who can't keep our hands still while driving. But the Rumba table dangerously encourages all them after-the-first drink-percussionist-wannabes who will eventually wind up sliding up to you at the end of our second set, and ask if they can play your bongos because they've been practicing on their Rumba table at home.

On a milder note:

The name "Rumba table" might be a bit misleading, I could imagine
that the producer only wanted to give it a flash name, that´s all. So after all
there seems no real competition with a real Afro-Cuban rumba community intended - just my guess.

And, on second thoughts, I think this weird "instrument" could be really useful in
musical therapy or in other educational contexts.
At least it is innovative.
