SalseroBoriqua71 and OLSONGO...Hey guys...I'm sorry about my remarks. It's the way I feel, but I need work in the Diplomatic Department. If my words sound harsh, or negative, I really from the bottom of my heart did not mean it. I just did not want to see Salsero go through a lot of trouble and then be bummed out later. But don't pay me any mind. I hope your project turns out looking really nice, and I just need to keep my opinions a little more to my self. Again, apologies to you guys and may your project turn out nice. I mean it.

Will.

Thebreeze, man we haven't even started and we are already a failure, and you don't even own the drum or know my background in Industrial design materials. I have seen worst structural damages done to a car , and repaired as it never happened. Actually there are better materials and techniques today, that will make the repair a success.

Sounds good. I am looking forward to seeing the finished product.I guess I spoke to soon, not knowing about your background in this field. Looks like Salsero is in good hands. And again, per my previous post, I apologize that I came out a little un diplomatic.

Hello guys !!

I have made only 2 fiberglass drums, that's why I'm saying I'm not an expert (third time !! ), even if the second is successfull, I haven't the background of other guys of the forum. OLSONGO, if you have work on car repairs, I'm shure you well know the ability of the materials, better than anyboby.

When I see the damages on the drum, I think that's it will be a very dificult and maybe expensive repair, That's only what I feel !! maybe right, maybe wrong !

Salsero, The only thing I can say is : If you like this drum, just try to save it !!! and please, let us know the work with photos, descriptions, cost, and in any case, we will learn more about fiberglass.

Cheers,
Galou.

Many moons ago i used to work in an autobody shop that was owned by my uncle. that drum can be repaired with no problem. i think you can personally fix it but, given the fact that you are not skilled fiberglass worker, it may not look or come out as good as you would have wanted. the side plates are very easy to fix. as someone mentioned you can fill in the pockets and sand evenly. the ideal thing to do with the bearing edge and the side plate pockets was to mold
bearing edge off of the tumba and then cutting it and shaping it to a conga size circle with the mold that equalled 11 x/x. once that was done, in different stages you couldve applied the mold to the body and then reinforce it. to create the mold place wet newspaper on the bearing edge all the way around and press where the paper makes contact with the edge, once thats done pour resin on top of the wet newspaper with a small brush spread evenly accross the paper. make sure that when you create the mold that you make the mold several inches below the bearing edge on the outside and cover the rest of the drum with some protective paper and tape.. once its hard enough to handle but not completly dry, pull the mold off. cut and reshape and then apply and reinforce.
the resin should never come in contact with the object youre creating the mold from, only the wet paper.
sorry i was too late. but i still wanted to post the information for however needed it. fiberglass is extremly strong and a repair can hold the pressure of the tension.
